When it comes to understanding health doctors and other medical professional’s use what is know as the biomedical model of health. The biomedical model treats illness as strictly something that is wrong with the workings of the body caused by things such as germs, disease and accidents and doesn’t take in to account a persons social or mental factors. The biomedical model also gives doctors a set of basic guidelines in which to work to. In the hospital ward scenario where there was a patient suffering from dementia, my first recommendation was that cleaners should be trained regularly on how to clean dirty cups properly and should be ensured the consequences for the patients if this was not done properly. I recommended this because if cleaners are trained regularly and reminded on how to clean cutlery properly, and were ensured that this should be done as regular as possible. This recommendation could be referred to the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) because this act includes safe training for the employees, in this case the cleaners. It includes high standards of hygiene which fits into this recommendation because the training involves ensuring how to clean dirty cups properly. (www.legislations.gov.uk, Accessed 04/10/13).
Hospital-acquired infections are preventable and preventing them is straightforward: a code of cleanliness. Hands should be cleaned frequently with an anti-bacterial soap for at least 30 seconds. Gowns, masks and gloves should be worn frequently so that pathogens aren’t transmitted to the patient during treatment. Moreover, when moving a patient, the patient should wear a mask and should be moved only when necessary (Isolation Precaution Guidelines for Hospitals n.d.). People go to the hospital in order to get better from whatever ailment is troubling them.

Healthcare organizations should develop disease preventive measure /strategies. This approach would be beneficial to the general public as well as to the healthcare organization.
