“Athletes should be Tested for Drugs” DeVry University Summary/Reaction In the article titled “Athletes should be Tested for Drugs,” authors Lee, Deborah, Griswold and Ann. They argue that bans on use of illegal drugs in sports need to be enforced. The authors claims that the use of illegal drugs, in sports should not be justified and try to keeping the integrity of sports. People pay to view the games, but never would justify allowing athletes to break rules in obvious ways. Such as steroids, that improves athlete’s performance increasing 40 percent the chances of winning each games.
Steroids have always been known as a performance enhancing drug, and now WADA has had to increase testing because of anabolic steroids. This is a dangerous class of steroids, which pharmaceutical companies have created, and some are not traceable. The abusers may become addicted to the synthetic anabolic steroids just as easily as the true form of steroids. Synthetic steroids also model the negative effects such as, physical problems, social relations, nervousness, and irritability. The use of a steroid will build larger muscles, and reduce muscle damage that can occur during intense workouts.
Second, the author addresses the prohibitionist argument that illegal drugs cause harm to people around the user as well. Huemer agrees that drugs have the potential to ruin a user’s life whether it be laziness, poor communication with others, or not taking pride in one’s work. He states that drug use only has a chance of causing one to behave in these ways. There are people all over the world that voluntarily behave in these ways without the use of drugs. Should these people be arrested for being losers?
Steroids: the Nasty Controversy In today’s society people want to be their best and get there by any means necessary. People want to find the shortest and easiest way to make it to the top. People who choose to use steroids and HGH for reasons other than appropriate medical treatments fail to recognize that they not only damage themselves but they also damage the sport by cheapening any victories they claim. Some human beings out in the world believe that the use of steroids and HGH in sports is a good thing. They are wrong!!!
He explained with the point with the idea that sport is about creating extraordinary moments and drug taking would simply be cheating. He explained that drugs have long term effects and can cause excessive damage to the body. Olivier then stated a very good point for the argument against drug taking for sports: that sports will be all about money and not talent. The richest individuals will be better than the ones who cannot afford it. Both debaters used imagery to convey characters demonstrating either sides of the argument.
Legalization of Steroids Steroid use by athletes has been a controversial issue for some time. Others argue that the usage is totally wrong and it is against the morals and the rules of the games. Steroids do help performance of athletes, but they do have some side effects. A real athlete should work his/her way with hard work and the correct training to build that endurance and strength needed. As society merges from day to day and norms get more in percentage there are many things that are corrupting the American society.
Steroid dealers probably give out more misinformation than the media. Looking at the data to treat HIV-wasting syndrome, depression, or gonadal failure is not appropriate because they use approximate physiological doses, not the doses that many athletes
Not only can they help sport athletes out to make them better players but they can also cure people from very severe diseases. They also can help an average person look better and even feel better about themselves. I do not believe that steroids will be legalized within the near future due to the common public out look toward them. People are ignorant about steroids and believe what they hear and do no truly understand them and their benefits. If steroids were legalized it would give scientists a much easier opportunity to understand what they can really do and possibly figure out way to alter steroids and make them more efficient.
Even though the use of some drugs may benefit the team as a whole, it is still against the rules and should be dealt with harshly. Most high school teams refuse to perform drug tests because they suspect athletes use drugs. This avoidance of the truth allows many athletes to get places they do not belong. Star athletes who use drugs are living a big lie - their fame and prestige are falsely
So the question rises, why are performance enhancing drugs not legalized? Various forms of performance enhancement drugs have been utilized for centuries and yet it is still illegal for professional athletes to use these pharmaceuticals (Richard I.G. Holt 84). These drugs should remain illegal, it is an unfair advantage against other athletes constituting it as simple as cheating (Dillingham 91) and most importantly these actions have an effect not only on their bodies but also all of the sport fanatics. Dillingham states that steroids are a form of cheating creating an unfair advantage to those who take them breaking the social contract athletes have implicitly agreed to: We are going to have a fair contest (Dillingham 91).
