The government’s purpose was to inform the citizens of Britain of the options that they had. They had many reasons to be honest about the information in the pamphlet because the lives of many innocent people were on the line. The pamphlet can be compared to a promise to the people. This information was recorded during World War II but before the German air strikes. This document helped right history because it was developed during a major war in world history.
Censoring a Classic The article “Don’t Censor Mark Twain’s N-Word” by Leonard Pitts Jr. discusses the changes made to a great piece of American Literature. The n-word will no longer be used in the newly published versions of Mark Twain’s classic Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Pitts claims there are many reasons why this should be considered wrong. Pitts explains that it was the author’s choice to use that word. The readers also have a choice to read the classic or not but, changing it should not be in question.
Contrary to the serious tone of Mr. Herbert’s letter, the letter from Mr. Seaver is immediately critical and mocking of Mr. Herbert’s letter. Mr. Seaver’s ingenious solution to the Coca-Cola Company’s issue is that “to request the sales personnel to make sure that what the customer wants is the book, rather than a Coke.” His statement is satirizing the ridiculous idea of approaching a book company to revise their statement because it might be confused with a soda. In addition, Seaver mimics the format and use of words from Herbert’s letter further proving the purpose of Grove Press using the slogan. Seaver also uses a belittling tone when closing his letter “With all best wishes”
Bennett should replace the study with a wider range study that is cited. William J. Bennett’s article, “Against Gay Marriage,” is a moderate argument on why same sex couples should not be able to marry. His argument is well put together and brief, and the point he’s trying to rely makes the reader examine their thoughts on gay marriage. However, assuming and not citing sources take away from the strengths of the
The Early Fight on Booze Drinking in the 1920’s was influenced mostly by prohibition; the government put forth prohibition in order to make more productive workers. Henry Ford announced, "The country couldn't run without Prohibition. That is the industrial fact.” Temperance movements would portray alcohol as to causing poverty, crime, corruption, social problems, and tax burdens. John D. Rockefeller alone donated close to $350,000 to the Anti-Saloon League. Both of these business leaders believed that alcohol decreased the efficiency of their workers, and if alcohol were banned it would be better for their business.
Prohibition was a mistake because it took away people’s freedom of choice to decide for themselves whether to consume alcohol; people who want to consume alcohol will still be able to make it or purchase from illegal sources; alcohol made from illegal sources pose a threat to the health and safety of the consumer; leads to loss of taxes and jobs; and criminal organizations will profit from prohibition leading to increased illegal activities. (www.philforhumanity.com/Prohibition_of_Alcohol.html) Prohibition caused a lot of controversy in the United Sates in the 1920’s. The 18th Amendment took away the freedom of
Maybe "marijuana recovery" should stop being hoisted as propaganda, and should be a service for those few who truly need it. How many alcoholics would go to AA if Prohibition was still in effect? There is a lot of propaganda out there about pot, and all I'm asking for those reading this is to give the argument for (and against) legalization a fair shake, and to not let beliefs founded on propaganda, someone else's moral standards, or beliefs unfounded in fact to sway you. Look at the arguments and decide for yourself. There are plenty of individuals who don't smoke marijuana (or don't smoke it anymore) and still think it should be legalized, so let the facts help you make your decision, not the propaganda.
Brown reports. "We have been basically selling every single thing we make," Mr. Fifer said on the call. But gun control is still one of Feinstein's highest priorities. She authored the 1994 assault-weapons ban, which expired in 2004 because Congress did not reauthorize it. One question being asked is how effective a ban on assault weapons would be in curbing gun violence.
This bill prohibited 19 different types of firearms from being sold or imported inside the U.S. It also limited certain types of ammunition that could be sold in America. John McCain believes that trying to outlaw certain kinds of ammunition undermines the Second Amendment. However, when McCain ran for president in 2000, he was featured in radio and television ads that supported regulation on gun shows and registered gun buyers. John McCain began pushing for all merchants at gun shows to have to run instant background checks for potential buyers.
Several California cities had required businesses to enroll in the program to ensure that they weren't employing undocumented workers, but these cites no longer are allowed to force businesses to use it.” On MEL I came along this small article and it flattered me that this website was shutdown. The government may get involved in many things they should not but this is a positive outcome. It is benefiting the American people so illegals cannot work here and take jobs that should be long to citizens who pay taxes. Maybe these
