These needs are biological, psychological, developmental, and/or social. Thus, the goal of nursing through Orem’s theory is to increase the patient’s ability to independently meet these needs. The common problems that I deal with are musculoskeletal injuries from accidents resulting in fractures, and various forms of arthritis resulting in joint replacement surgeries.

Introduction For this essay I will be critically reflecting back upon my work place experience. My experiences as a student on a stroke ward and what skills I have developed. The stroke unit is a specialist unit that cares for patients with strokes from an early point of their condition through to rehabilitation and, for some patients, up to discharge.

I have wanted to become a Nurse from an early age, and along the way I have experienced working in different fields which has helped me to develop some of the interpersonal skills required for nursing. One of the areas that I am interested in is mental health nursing, a post that require patience and empathy. Family members who have worked as mental health nurse have given me an incite of what work in this area really entails. This was further fostered whilst helping my son’s development. I attended many workshops and sessions that relate to psychology (I did a course in psychology) and speech therapy.
