Denzel Schaeffer 01-2 AP Psych Summer Assignment Behavioral psychology, also known as behaviorism, became dominant in the early 20th century by figures like B.F. Skinner & John B. Watson. The idea behind it is that all people acquire their behavior by interacting with their environment through classical condition or operant conditioning. They also believed human behavior can be understood by investigating animal behavior. Depression is caused by a combination of stressors in a person's environment and a lack of personal skills & one who commits this behavior is part of this type of psychology. This type of psychological behavior suggests that in order to treat this depression, you must continue to do what you’ve been doing at a more positive rate.…show more content…
It typically investigates at the level of nerves, neurotransmitters, brain circuitry and the basic biological processes that lie under normal and abnormal behavior. Notable psychologists’ associated with this type of psychology include Rene Descartes & William Harvey. Neurotransmitters are natural substances which aid in the communication between one brain cell and another. Serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine, are three transmitters which are often imbalanced in depressed people which cause them to become depressed. There is no single cure for this type of depression but medication is most effective with the treatment of this depression. Cognitive psychology explores internal mental processes. It is the study of how people perceive, remember, think, speak, and solve problems. Important figures include Ulric Neisser & George Miller.
