The continued power grab will destroy the capitalist system shackling the limbs of the free market. The regulation imposed creates factions limiting the ease of market entry. The environment that our American business calls home must remain competitive assuring quality goods to consumers while encouraging technological advancements. The path our federal government is currently on is a path of non-democratic regulation that is a threat to the growth and prosperity of our country. It is simply a matter of the true meaning of the Constitution, specifically the commerce clause that must be addressed.
The long essays are the first on my list to explain why I hate English so much. The first thing you are taught in English is how to spell. So, that probably explains why grammatical errors are always the first to get marked wrong on an essay. I feel if you can pretty much tell what it is, it should be marked right; teachers never seem to feel the same. The next thing you are taught is punctuation.
Reading Umberto Eco’s “Role of the Reader” in college, Ricky states that, “The reader completes the text, that the text is never finished until it meets this voracious and engaged reader.” Although there are critics who believe there is a right and a wrong way to ready books, Moody says, “I believe there is not now and never will be an authority who can tell me how to interpret, how to read, how to find the pearl of literary meaning in all cases.” Part 2. Response I really enjoyed reading this article about how the author really has a passion and understanding for reading. This is probably the most in depth piece of writing I have read about the philosophy of reading. Ricky Moody uses very educated language and supports his claims with quotes from well-known people, one being Nietzsche. He ends his essay with a strong quote that uses personification, “I believe in the freedom to see literature, history, truth unfolding ahead of me like a book whose spine has just now been cracked.” With this quote said, it is very apparent that the author has a passion for reading.
Reading books change their mind and maybe as well as their lives. The value of literacy does not only play a role on kids but also on adults. After surviving from the holocaust, it is hard and hurt for Wiesel to recall the memory of what he and others had suffered but he chose to write the history down to let it remembered. He said[,] “I was duty-bound to give meaning to my survival, to justify each moment of my life. I knew the story had to be told.
Response Paper #1 “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Passage Selection The first passage I chose that helped me better understand the reading was the line: “If I tried to get away with it, then other people would try to get away with it – and pretty soon we’d be right back to the dark ages again, with everybody competing against everybody else.” It gives you the idea that what we now see in our modern society would have been almost completely incomprehensible to far past centuries. It also makes you wonder if the common desire for equality that we now strive for to make things equal for everyone can be taken too far. The second passage that I felt was important to me was: “Gee- I could tell that one was a doozy,” ”You can say that again.” ”Gee- I could tell that one was a doozy.” This selection was important to me because it gave me a better understanding of the situation. The previous events in the literature were very drastic and sad.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a very important story for every high schooler to read. Although it does a little more then slightly hint at the racism in that time period, it also teaches readers. It shows racism in such a horrible light, that nobody could revert to such a thing. Our past isn’t always the nicest thing to look upon, but it’s still there. The difference is what we do in the future, and this novel teaches us that everyone is equal and shall be treated as
May 7, 2013 Perspective Needed for Task 4 Refrain from being encyclopedic. Instead, integrate ideas. Hammer away at the thesis: my being sensitive to other cultures that may impact business practices / marketing strategies in order for our American business to be successful. We Americans may have to “do in Rome like the Romans.” How might we have to tweak our interactions, marketing, business operations since our market is not just Americans ? Terms are foreign1 o “culture”-- customs, traditions, ways of doing things that make peoples unique.
Chafe, Alice Mary Baldwin Professor of History and former Dean of the Faculty at Duke University, admits that he has built his impressive scholarly career by neglecting these dramas to shape what is now the accepted historical conventional wisdom. In books such as "Civilities and Civil Rights" and "The American Woman," he writes, "I have focused on the way social movements, not individuals, have transformed our recent past." Now, Chafe wishes to right the balance, beginning with what he calls "an old-fashioned conviction -- that individual leaders make a difference in a society." The result is insightful and significant, showing how the personal and the psychological shape the political and historical. In eight well-paced, well-written chapters, Chafe sketches portraits of 10 influential modern Americans: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and the Clintons, Hillary and Bill.
Censorship, in my opinion, is the poison to the freedom of speech, with censorship around, that freedom will die. As our 35th president, John F. Kennedy said in quote found on Thinkexist.com, if we as a country are to grow the country we know we can be, we cannot just rely on two or three ideas that are brought to the table by a few chosen men. According to Kennedy If this nation is to be wise as well as strong, if we are to achieve our destiny, then we need more new ideas for more wise men reading more good books in more public libraries. These libraries should be open to all—except the
Illegal votes minimize citizen’s rights in the Constitution and it undermines our democracy that was established and preached by the founding fathers; therefore a solution for this loophole should be quickly tied and these actions no longer tolerable or allowed under the 14th amendment. As citizens of the US, we have a right stated in the 1st amendment to be able to express our opinions; our values and beliefs should be directly represented through the voting process. Although future elections are predicted to be heavily influenced by this growing minority population, politicians are beginning to apprehend the negative brunt illegal immigration has bestowed upon our country as this could be a small factor in the current struggling economy. Congressman Tom Tancredo has vast prospective ideas on how to reform our immigration system. By working across the aisle a feasible and successful solution to the straining liability and encumbrances may be obtained to make our country incorrupt and hospitable to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness to the citizens of the United State of
