American Influence to Filipinos

It has been told and taught to us in school even in the community we live in. We have been colonized by many, to name one of it is America. American influence is very strong in the Philippine society nowadays. We see it a lot everyday. We may have practiced it without noticing. To name some is eating at McDonald’s, and watching The Voice. McDonald’s menu is more of hamburgers, fries and sandwiches which are American foods. The Voice originated in Holland, Netherlands but we Filipinos acquire it from the Americans. In terms of clothing, teenagers wear shorts, high heels, make up, dresses and bonnets. The impact was too strong that until now we still experience. Filipinos should not uphold its colonial ways, practices and notions. We should try our best to compete with them. Our products should be competitive to their products also. We should start to make our quality standard products. In order to help our economy we should buy our own products we can give employment and improve business economy in our country. We will patronize our own products. Filipino nationalism can be advanced through us. Filipinos are talented. We have what it takes to compete and that being said and done to be proven. We won in beauty contests, sports and also the overseas Filipino workers. We are very skillful and hardworking people. Yes, a typical Filipino still have a strong sense of colonial mentality. It is because it is what we’ve been used to and we don’t bother to change it. We speak in English, we buy imported products over than our own because its what we think it’s cool, delicious, worth it. Even the movie choices we prefer to watch foreign movies than Filipino movies. All this because they set the
