Renewable energy sources are being used all over the world since 200 BCE. Brilliant minds have devoted their time to finding resources that help save energy and help lower the costs. Solar power is an excellent energy resource in which the sun gives us free rays that should be put to use as a power source. Energy development is the effort to provide sufficient energy sources for supply, cost, impact on air pollution and water pollution, mitigation of climate change with renewable energy. As the price of energy increases and the negative environmental impact of many current practices becomes more of an issue the need for energy development has become more prevalent especially among in extremely industrial areas. Some of the main forms of alternative energy sources include: bio fuels, geothermal power, solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectric power, and nuclear energy. The level of use of these external energy sources may be different among countries as the climate, convenience, levels of traffic, pollution and availability of domestic energy sources varies among societies. The US, Germany, India, UK, and Spain are the main providers and researchers in alternative energy sources. More recently as energy prices and gas prices have soared the demand to pursue these technologies has increased by significant amounts. UN Involvement The United Nations has taken an active role in working to provide alternative energy sources throughout the global community. On February 6, 2006 alternative energy resources such as roads made out of sugar, ships powered and propelled by the sun and grease-consuming bacteria were among the environmentally-sound technologies that were being explored at the conference in Dubai. One of the Millennium Development Goals is to ensure environmental sustainability in which the UN has been working to do so through several conferences and
