Washington 1 Carrie Washington Drug lords, also referred to as a drug baron, or kingpins are words used to describe a person who has the power to develop and control an organization of people from anywhere in a network involving the illegal drug trade. These people are very difficult to bring down in the justice system because they what we cell white collar criminals. Drug lords do not usually like to get their hands dirty with their work and commands, they have many people working under them to follow out their commands. In order for drug lords to be obtained the officials must try and find a leak or snitch in the drug lord’s operation. He was the son of a barber and a seamstress. Al Capone was a very intelligent student, but stayed in trouble at school because he did not like following simple instruction. He dropped out of school at the age of fourteen, after alleged hitting his teacher in the face. Al was influenced by Johnny Torrio, a gangster, who had Al doing odd jobs for him. Al became a part of a couple of different gangs growing up, such as the Bowery Boys and the Junior Forty Thieves. He then moved up to bigger city gangs like the Brooklyn Rippers and the Malicious Five Points Gang. It was during Capone’s time working for a bartender name Frankie Yale when he obtained the scars that gave him the nickname “Scarface”. Capone was slashed three times in the face by Frank Gallucio, for insulting his sister as he was working at the door of a Brooklyn night club, not knowing that in the near future Frank would, ironically, become the bodyguard of Mr. Al Capone. In 1927 Capone fled New York and moved to Chicago to reunite with his mentor Torrio, who saw many job opportunities such as bootlegging during the prohibition. Capone was being linked to two crimes and a suspect to the killing of James “Big Jim” Colosimo, who did not agree with Torrio’s ideas. An eye witness was said to have seen a heavyset man with scars on the left side of his face fleeing the crime scene. He was said to have many get away places, and when he did come back into town or needed to travel somewhere him and his friends would buy out and entire Pullman sleeper car on night trains. Capone is well known for the St Valentine’s Day Massacre, which began on February 14, 1929. It is believed that Capone ordered the most savage gang killings of the century. The slaying took place in the Lincoln Park neighborhood which was in Chicago’s north side where the North Side Gang resides. It is also said that Capone’s men monitored their targets from rented apartments across the street from a trucking warehouse that served as Bugs Moren’s headquarters. On the morning of February 14, 1929, Capone’s men who were on look out signaled men who were dressed as police officers to start a raid. The disguised gunmen lined seven men along a wall without any struggle, they then signaled for their other accomplices with machine guns. The men were then shot down with machine guns and shotguns, they each had twenty or more bullets in them. This massacre was thought to be Capone’s effort to strike back at Bugs Moren’s North Side Gang, who had been hijacking his booze trucks., assassinated two presidents of Union Sicilian that the Outfit controlled, and their three attempts to kill one of Capone’s two
