The social creation of dependency is about how the elderly depend on the government. This is for things such as pensions and age restricted retirement policies. The effects of these policies are that they single out older people and isolate them in some ways. Because of this elderly people are left feeling worthless and have a low self-esteem as they stand out to be helpless and vulnerable. Because the elderly have a stereotypical image that they are useless they become a focus point as they have negative attitudes towards things and become more dependent on friends, family and social care services.
This paper is a review of the different generations, their core believes and influences, their work charactsitices, and the needed leadership methods to get the highest performance, both individually or in groups. America’s current workforce age gap is now spanning over fifty years with current employees being borne between 1940 and 1993. Social and medical reasons have aided in the lengthen of activate employeement. Improvement in health and related services coupled with the rising of healthcare cost are major factors in people choosing to continue working versus retirement. Company’s going away for defined retirement programs to 401K and Individual Retirement Accounts shifts the funding of retirement to the individual employees.
The questions still remains: why can’t the American people provide the best and most effective medical care for all of our elderly citizens? And, how can we accomplish this goal and fund it in a fiscally responsible way? Research still needs to continue in order to resolve these questions. Conservatives criticized Medicare because it is a nuisance to the party’s ideology, which views the private marketplace, not government, as the solution to society’s most pressing social problems. By applying the strengths perspective, which uses human strength and resiliency as a guide for helping individuals overcome personal obstacles and challenges, conservatives would rationalize that older adults should plan for their retirement many years earlier, preparing a way to provide their own medical care.
An image of rocking chairs, front porches and old timers telling the same story over and over again to an unwilling audience. Is this an accurrate view of what it means to be an adult, an older adult? In our modern socitey ther are many challenges for those of this developmental stage, one of which is ageism. Ageism is the negative attitude towards our elderly and aging based on the idea that older individuals have less control over their mental state, that they are less attractive or even that they are less competent (Feldman, 2008). This antiquated attitude presents a miriade of challenges for our aging nation as they find themselves combating the socially accepted behavior of devalued steroetyping.
However the timing quality and degree of the ageing process are highly variable and very different for each individual. General assumptions and stereotypes about aging are harmful to individual senior adults and do not benefit society. What is ageism and how is it perpetuated, what is the general link between the gender ageism and the language and ageism are issues that are still not well introduced in the society. Today more often the ageism is broadly defined as any prejudice or discrimination against or in favour of an age group .It is manifested in many negative ageisms: infirm, unprotected, senile, dirty, cranky, childish. Institutionally companies, health care system, and welfare funds only confirm to a larger extent how has the ageism entered in the modern society.
Within my own workplace I have noticed that the some residents intolerant of people who suffer from Dementia. This is based on a stereotype that Dementia is a stigma. Structural discrimination reflects the way in which society allows some groups to retain more power than others. As such, some groups do not have the power to change the stereotypes that exist about themselves. For example, members of black and ethnic minority groups are disproportionately represented in low wage or unemployment statistics, reflecting their low status and position in society.

My thoughts on elderly drivers would be based on nothing more then the importance of safety on the roads. It would be quite difficult for me to strongly point my opinion, since my voice on the restrictions of senior citizen driving could easily be turned back on me in the long run. Sooner or later as long as we’re living, we will all eventually become older; so each and every one of us will have to face the scrutinizing pressures of society on whether or not elderly citizens should be allowed to drive. Not all people are alike; a 75-year-old man could be in top-fit shape driving without the slightest problem, while a 65-year-old woman could be suffering from poor health conditions that impairs her driving abilities. I feel that elderly people should not be allowed to drive under certain circumstances.
