Tragedy All day every day, everybody is doing something. It may be breathing, watching television, or even cliff jumping. Often times the situations people get caught in are so negative, that a positive outcome can miraculously occur. Human beings need adversity to help discover who they are, and to live a meaningful life. Parents make the first step in creating adversity for their children. My mother took her first step when she was eighteen years old. Breaking her family’s hearts and leaving to drive across the country with her best friend, my mother set out on her first real adventure. My mother told me that she layed on the floor for what felt like weeks (she doesn’t quite remember), and doesn’t even know who took care of my brother, my sister, and I. They went from drinking iced tea in the front yard looking at the stars one night, to living in separate homes and desperately searching for excuses as to why Dad’s snoring didn’t boom through the house the next night, or why Mom never carried the huge muddy boots outside in the morning mumbling to herself anymore. My father became an alcoholic after that, and my mother went to church. My mother finding what she believes in, was the best thing to ever happen to my family. She is the most loving, caring, accepting, and hilarious person I have ever met because of that place and those people. She found people to support her through her pain, to help her raise us. My siblings and I didn’t need a father after that, we had a whole church full of fathers, and extra mothers, and even more brothers and sisters. After my father sobered up and begged to be part of our lives again, we added one more man to the pile of fathers that we had. We had great men in our lives to help my mother guide us, and I see now how courageous my father was to come back and attempt to be a father. My parent’s did not get back together, but my father stuck around. My mother finding that church, helped me become so much like her. My father coming back inspired me to stick to the things I promise myself
