Jason’s uncle, Pelias, stripped Jason’s dad, Aeson, off the throne and became the king, and to win back the throne, Jason decided to go back to his hometown. Pelias promised Jason that he will give up the throne if Jason brings him the Golden Fleece from the land of Colchis, which is an arduous quest. Jason agreed and he set off to work. First, he needed a ship to sail to the land of Colchis. A recruit named Argus built Jason a boat called Argos, which he named after himself. Then, Jason gathered a group of heroes and demigods, and they called themselves the Argonauts. After finishing the preparations, Jason and the Argonauts sailed toward their destination, the land of Colchis. On the way home, they faced many hardships such as being trapped by a Cyclop and being turned into pigs. On the island of Helios, there were a very special cattle. The men were warned not to eat the cattle but they can’t control their desire to eat. Unfortunately, soon after they ate the cattle, all of the men died in a storm except for Odyssey. The situation didn’t get any better. Odyssey landed on Kalypso's island and was held captive there for seven years. Luckily, Zeus took pity on Odyssey and forced Kalypso to let him go. There were many obstacles on his way home, but fortunately, Odyssey told his story to the Phaiakians, they were touched by his suffering and decided to help and sent him home. After Odyssey arrived his house, he dressed up as an old beggar and told Penelope, his wife, to host a contest. Whoever could shoot Odyssey’s arrow through 12 axes’ heads will become Penelope’s husband. No one succeeded. Odyssey, still disguised as an old beggar, succeeded, took off his disguise, and he killed all of the untrustworthy suitors with the help of his son, Telemachos, some of his devoted servants, and Athene’s stability. The main characters of the two stories were both traveling on seas. Jason’s uncle Pelias had supplanted the throne from Jason, which Penelope’s suitors menace to do. They faced many monsters during their quest and they both came upon Scylla, Charybdis, and the Sirens.They were both helped by goddesses and people they don’t know. Both Jason and Odyssey regained their throne at the end of the story. They both took a long period of time to complete their tasks. They both depended on their minds more than their bodies (physically) when they were confronting their enemies. Jason was blown off course on his way home, which sounds very similar to the first part of Odyssey’s journey. There are many differences between the two stories too. Circe helped Jason and the Argonauts with their quest, but she turned Odyssey’s men into pigs, which didn’t help them with their quest at all. Odyssey was already married but Jason was not. The story of Odyssey took place when they were going back to their hometown, but Jason’s story started when he was already in his hometown. All of Odyssey’s men died in their journey, but the Argonauts completed the quest without dying. The ending of Odyssey’s story was him reuniting with his family, but Jason didn’t reunite with his family because his dad already died. The characters in both stories came upon monsters in their journey, and there was a cyclop in both
