Advantage of Bilingualism I wanted to hide in a hole. I had been living here for six months and went with my husband to the mall to buy clothes. Salesperson helped me to choose some clothes, and then she asked me to try on the clothes. When I went into the fitting room the salesperson asked me, “What is your name?” and I quickly answers, “not thank you.” My husband started to smile. For this reason, I asked him “what happened?” he told me, “you are wrong - she asked you your name. Consequently my face blushed. Stories like this are told by people who do not speak English in the U.S. For people that suffer like a lack of bilingual ability, communication can be quite difficult. Learning a new language is not easy, but it is necessary for daily life and to get better economic opportunities. When people speak more than one language, they have a competitive advantage, and get better positions and wages. Right now, competitive advantages are analyzed by companies the moment that they decide to hire a new professional. Of course, being bilingual is not the only one quality that companies are looking for in new employees; however, it is a very important talent. Almost, all the companies want to have employees with skills to talk with Latin people who among minorities are a great majority. The benefits to companies are easily seen because they can conduct business with international companies. The reason they prefer bilingual people is because the U.S. is a country of immigrants. If people know two or more languages they can get better positions in the companies, which are hiring professionals from different nationalities. They could have more communication with bosses and subordinates to easily achieve company objectives. Saving money is extra advantages that bilingual people give to companies; it is cheaper finally because companies do not need pay for
