The article “Paga ser Bilingue” by Domenico Maceri discusses why workers should be reward for being bilingual. Growing immigrant population in the United States that is not fluent in English requires providing more services in different languages. Many government agencies and American companies are looking to hire bilingual employees. Instead of hiring expensive professional interpreters, the companies prefer save money by providing stipends for multilingual workers. However, some people disagree with providing services in different languages because emigrants will never learn English.
Immigration, damaging or helpful? Immigration has been a problem in the United States since before the country was established. Many citizens and politicians claim that illegal immigration is a hindrance to the country’s economy because immigrants take American jobs and that they don’t pay taxes. They also agree that our government spends too much money in keeping them out. People on the other side of this argument claim that immigrants help by taking unwanted jobs with very little pay, and in doing that they are helping keep the prices of domestic goods down across the country.
Some people oppose the DREAM Act because they think it encourages and rewards illegal immigrants and will attract other illegal immigrants creating migrations of whole families to enter into the U.S. Some Americans believe this Act is unfair because they may have to pay full tuition at state universities and colleges when immigrant students will have easier access to lower tuition to college because they are poor or minority. They also come in pursue of giving a better educational opportunities to their young children. Also immigrants are more likely to create jobs and pay taxes when they live in the United States which helps the economy grow stronger. Although there are many negative conceptions about immigrants these individuals should have the opportunity to migrate to the United States for a better life. Many of the immigrants that migrate were left with no other option but to enter illegally through the border because in there countries they suffered from poverty, crime, the lack of education and opportunities. In the article “Rethinking El Salvador’s transnational families” by Leisy J. Abrego writes about a young boy named Daniel and his struggles living in El Salvador while his father is in the United States looking for work.
Many wonder why there are so many undocumented students in this country. There is one reason to this the DREAM Act has not passed since introduced in congress. The DREAM Act is a law that grants the undocumented students of this country to gain legal status after studying here for all of high school and 2 years of college or have either joined the armed services. I wonder why the government of this country doesn’t help the undocumented students. In my research I came across the following questions that lead me think what reason does the government have to not pass the DREAM Act.
This topic is of importance to the people of the United States because there are around 12 million illegal immigrants living and working in this nation. Though these people should not have come illegally into this country, nevertheless now that they are here our economy is more bountiful because of it. More than a third of all non-legal immigrants are working in just three cities; Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. This alone takes out a lot of the argument from people who think that illegal immigrants are stealing their jobs. Furthermore these immigrants are taking whatever jobs they can find, and because of this they are doing some of the most undesired jobs in the nation.
Also according from studies done by New York University of Education Department it shows that United States education system fails to stay up to standers compare to what the Easter world makes for their high Schools students. One of the major problems caused in Long Island high schools by not having dress codes is Bulling. Student in high schools complains that other kids make fun of their dress. Also if you don’t have the top brands, colors, and styles on, then they treat you as if the students are not part of the school or are out of there cast or even place them on the bottom there permanent. It makes the student with high standers and strong educational level struggle and eventually fall apart.
Although military recruitment in American high schools is controversial, this is an important way for the military to reach young people to enlist. Not Meeting the Quota As more teens are going to college and not wanting to join the military, military recruiters are coming up short on their quotas they have to meet; either for the month or for the year. “Because of this, military recruiters are targeting the poor Black and Latino neighborhoods, were these kids do not have a wide range of options” (Ayers 87.8). Working as a recruiter isn’t that easy, you have to talk to people you’ve never met, talk to their parents on why the military would be good for them; sometimes it doesn’t end up well and you have to go onto the next. Military Denied Access to Teens Some schools believe that the military should not target teens in high school because they are too young and that they should try to go to college first.
For some reasons that Immigrants are sure that the things is better in this country than their original country. In the United States many Immigrants come to find jobs, or looking for their safety because Untied States allow people that they live in dangerous situations for example war to come to the United States and start new safe life as Immigrants. Also Immigrants come to find work. There are many jobs in this country. Even in recession time the opportunity to find job for immigrants ten times bigger than Immigrants original country.
However, illegal Mexican immigrants take the jobs that most Americans do not want. They usually get the low paying jobs that are hard labor because they are in need of work in order to survive. When illegal Mexican immigrants take these jobs, it helps the load of producers and consumers that gains in the economic welfare. In most cases, illegal Mexican immigrants work in construction, meatpacking, agriculture, and other physically demanding jobs. According to “Benefits of Immigration “It is a fact that immigrants are a source of low cost labor, but these cost reductions are eventually passed on to the consumer, so host country citizens benefit from this as
