Student #: 816402341 Intro to Ethics Ethics Paper II Adderall is a substance claimed to be the key to success. This was an unfamiliar idea to me until my friend confessed me that she was partaking in her roommate’s Adderall prescription. Both she and her roommate were in the same English class that semester and therefore were assigned the same papers and assignments. She boasted about her academic prowess over that of her roommate and how she attributed her newly found focus and drive to the use of this addictive substance. This therefore means that since their distraction and hyperactivity levels are suppressed, they can function well and execute tasks as well as the average non-ADHD student. However, when non-ADHD students pervade the system, the state of equality is compromised. This provides non-ADHD Adderall consumers a continued advantage over the ADHD students. These essentially still have a better shot at thriving better and outperforming the ADHD. This deliberate use of Adderall to gain better grades puts ADHD students at a further disadvantage because there is no other means by which the field could be leveled once more. That is to say that we are obligated to promote the ends of rational agents. This requires the student to ceases dishonesty and unlawful behavior such as his stealthy acquisition of Adderall. He is required to not steal his roommates Adderall because doing so would violate a perfect duty to that person. Stealing is duty of non-interference and we should always refrain from acting against perfect duties. It is also morally good, however, for the student to indirectly help his roommate by allowing the roommate to have his full prescription. In doing so he fulfills an imperfect duty of consideration towards him. This means that he has a duty to allow his roommate to not claim any of his Adderall tablets so that he could have a uniform prospect of success as his other classmates, and therefore have a opportunity to succeed and perform just as well as someone without ADHD.
