EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Ontario is facing billion dollar deficits, competitive disadvantages in its traditional manufacturing sector, and high unemployment rates. Trends across provincial Ministries are to cut budgets and look for innovative solutions. Ontario universities and colleges are no exception. This is particularly important as employment and household income becomes more and more aligned with level of education. Provincial Statistics * 53% of Ontarians aged 15 and older had attained PSE credentials (Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, 2011) * 1.17% projected attainment increase each year expected to continue through to 2018 where one out of every six adult Ontarians will be enrolled (participation) in the province’s public post-secondary institutions (Commission on the Reform of Ontario's Public Services, 2012) * 11.5% increase in international students per year (The Canadian Bureau for International Education , 2012) * Only 32% of persons with a disability had attained post-secondary credentials, 59% of persons with a disability aged 18-21 attained PSE compared to 72% of without a disability (Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario,…show more content…
