Absolute Vodka, An Absolute Tragedy

The purpose of most advertisements is to steer you towards a product or its idea. But more often than not there are always those advertisements that give you a social message. A message of encouragement or discouragement. Ads of alcohol most of the time, one will see that the main purpose, is that the company is trying to sell it to us. But sometimes, you will also see an ad that is telling you the consequences of using that product, even in a negative way. One such example is the ad for Absolut Vodka. The Absolute Vodka brand is pretty famous, and people have heard of it’s name and most likely drink it at a social gathering. However, when one sees this ad, it is not appealing at first glance at all. This ad effectively shows why one should be discouraged from drinking and driving. One reason why one would be discouraged from drinking and driving is from the image you get with the top of the ad. You see a car brutally smashed up, and it looks like it ran into a tree. Obviously, one can establish that the person driving the car was under the influence of drinking, and was not able to consciously concentrate and drive the car properly. This image hits you with a sense of reality and it looks at the bigger picture. Not only may the car crash into the tree, but the people inside of the vehicle may also be severely hurt or in a worse case scenario , die. It effects a person’s perception of getting into a car after drinking heavily, and maybe when they drink, they will remember this image, and consider not driving or having someone else drive them home. The other image that draws your attention is the Absolut Vodka bottle on the road, which looks like it has been run over by the car. This image is sort of metaphorical if one really thinks about it. It is kind of telling you that you will get “run over” if you get into a car after drinking alcohol. It in a way
