Drugs and alcohol become part of the addict’s daily life, exactly like food. I completely disagree with such an issue, where it has become a problem through different areas. I see this; reading the book where James has lost everything he ever owned. Family, friends and most importantly himself. He has developed all sort of addiction through his behavior.
Chris McCandell seemed to lack common sense. In chapter 7, he compared his issues with a character in a book. The character in the book ran away from his family, and Chris felt like he should run away from his family too. Chris didn’t have to do what the character did, but he chose to. Something like this wasn’t necessary for him to do.
During middle school was when he was introduced to many illegal substances. He started hanging with the wrong crowd and was very much influenced by his peers. Middle school was also around the time when there started to be abuse within his family; between mother and stepfather to whom he called dad. Having abuse in his family; made him want to retaliate, not against his stepfather, but with the other kids at his school. Getting in trouble at school meant coming home to stepfather and getting punished.
There are four phases to FT which are uncovering, decision, work, and discovery. This therapy examines the injustice done to others, consider and make decisions on forgiveness of all involved parties, and learn the skills to forgive. It has been applied to certain populations. Forgiveness Therapy decreases the frequency and severity of maladaptive emotions rather than improve individuals' ability to cope with these emotions. “Given the importance of anger and related emotions such as anxiety and depression in the recovery of substance-dependent patients, we expect that patients in residential treatment for substance dependence could benefit from FT.” (Lin, Mack, Enright, Krahn, and Baskin, 2004) Forgiveness is the main feature to emotional recovery when dealing with chemical dependency.
MENTAL HEALTH RESEARCH PAPER For my mental health research paper I watched an episode of Intervention. I watched the episode online and it said it was aired on TV on March 2005. The episode focused on two people named Alissa and Brian. The main issues addressed in this show was that Alissa had a gambling addiction and Brian had an addiction to methamphetamine and sex. During my paper I am going to discuss factors that cause addiction and the behaviors that can impact and affect a persons life.

If someone feels wanted, chances are they will not get depressed. Other coping mechanisms are taking drugs prescribed for the certain disorders. Some drugs that are used to help cope with depression are Prozac, Xanax, and Celexa.
Listening to the stories at times thoughts were constantly running through my mind. In the beginning while listening in the first meeting I attended, it surprised me that the women in many cases felt alone. Times when they wanted to quit the crowd that they hung around made that impossible. I couldn’t believe how much power their addictions had and how hard it was to break free. Understanding that every day is a struggle to stay sober touched me because I can’t imagine fighting a disease that I gave myself every day.
The aim is to condition the patient to associate the undesirable behaviour with an aversive stimulus. This then leads to a suppression of the undesirable behaviour. The undesirable behaviours aversion therapy is used for include alcoholism, smoking and drug abuse. Before therapy the unconditional stimulus (UCS) would get an unconditional response (UCR). In aversion therapy, a neutral stimulus (NS) would be associated with a UCS.
