The main characters, the young, fresh-faced, Ponyboy Curtis, played by C. Thomas Howells, and fellow Greaser, Johnny Cade, played by Ralph Macchio, set out together to escape imprisonment for killing a Soc. The Socs were the higher income families of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The movie starts out at the town’s drive-in. Ponyboy and his Greaser friends get into multiple agreements with a few Socs about their girlfriends. Later that night, a few of the high class kids harass Ponyboy and Johnny.

Daniel and Frank take a drive out to Frank's grandmother and she dies, and then they take over her old house. Frank become pregnant and Daniel don’t think he is ready to get a child and he fled in panic, and take a flight to Spain.

Because of his addiction, he is thrown out of his home by his parents. His father smacks him in the face, calls him trash and throws him out on the street. Not long after Lucky finds Dove. Dove is a drug dealer who decides to help Lucky and takes him into his home, where Lucky is to be his runner. Lucky seems happy to be working for Dove as well as living with him and there seem to be a light ahead for him.
