“The actualising tendency refers to the tendency in all forms of organic life towards more complex organisation, the fulfilment of potential, and in human beings, the actualisation of the whole person including the persons self” (Merry 2002). Through my own experience I believe there is a need for positive self regard in order for an individual to make positive choices and trust in their own decisions.”To develop a sense of trust in the accuracy and reliability of our own inner experiencing” (Merry 2002). Again through personal experiences I understand the effect of the conditions of worth have on individuals. I believe that these affect us later in life and can be explored
Rogers also believed that people are inherently good and creative. However, he thought that people could become destructive when a poor self concept (how one sees oneself in comparison to others) or external constraints override the valuing process. Rogers thought that for a client to experience therapeutic change, certain conditions had to be present within the relationship. These conditions he called “The Core Conditions”, which were empathy, congruence (genuineness) and unconditional positive regard (respect). When Rogers talked about empathy, he meant the therapist should continually try to understand the client from their point of view (enter into their world to get a sense of how it feels)

Maslow proposed that after one’s basic physical, psychological and self-esteem needs are met, a person strives for self-actualization, fulfilling our potential, and self-transcendence, where we need to find identity beyond our self (Myers 565). Maslow began trying to describe self-actualization by studying inventive and healthy people who were remembered for their rich and productive lives. He studied the characteristics of important historical figures like Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson. After carefully analyzing these people Maslow concluded that they all shared characteristics that made each of their interests ‘problem-centered’ rather than ‘self-centered’ (Myers 565). Maslow used the personality traits of these important people to aid in defining what self-actualization actually is.
The concept of karma in religion is logically attractive and intellectually compelling but controversial in nature. In Hinduism karma causality is the relation between an event and a second event, where the second event is understood as a consequence of the first. This creates a system of actions and reactions throughout a soul’s reincarnated life. Causality is said to be applicable not only to the material world but also to our thoughts, words, actions and actions that others do under our instructions. When the cycle of rebirth
EG468 – Ethics V1.0 Week 1 – Essay Comparing Morality, Law and Religion Morality: Principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior. Law: The system of rules that a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and may enforce by the imposition of penalties. Religion: The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. All three go back further than written history and has been a part of the human story since time immemorial. I think they are all three subjective according to the civilization they exist in.
He believed a healthy motivational status is when healthy people have sufficiently gratified their basic needs for safety, belongingness, love, respect, and self-esteem. Therefore, they are motivated primarily by “trends to self-actualisation defined as on going actualisation of potentials, capabilities and talents, as fulfilment of mission (or call, fate, destiny, vocation), as a fuller knowledge of, and acceptance of, the person’s own intrinsic nature, as an unceasing trend towards unity, integration or synergy within the person” (Maslow, 1968, p.25). Maslow positioned his theories as a vital complement to that of Freud “it is as if Freud supplied us the sick half of
How do you study my mind and you are also a created being? How do you observe my behavior and diagnose? How can you predict my future behavior based on me past and present occurrences? While these are some of the questions that wage war between the two disciplines, Psychology and Christianity have always agreed on bulky areas of life. Christianity exalting love, self esteem, self-image and so does Psychology.
Why Self-Esteem is Important and Its Dimensions Angela Oswalt, MSW, edited by Mark Dombeck, Ph.D. Why is Self-Esteem important? Self-esteem refers to a person's beliefs about their own worth and value. It also has to do with the feelings people experience that follow from their sense of worthiness or unworthiness. Self-esteem is important because it heavily influences people's choices and decisions. In other words, self-esteem serves a motivational function by making it more or less likely that people will take care of themselves and explore their full potential.
Self-actualization Instead of focusing on psychopathology and what goes wrong with people, Maslow (1943) formulated a more positive account of human behaviour which focused on what goes right. He was interested in human potential, and how we fulfil that potential. Psychologist Abraham Maslow (1943, 1954) stated that human motivation is based on people seeking fulfilment and change through personal growth. Self-actualized people are those who were fulfilled and doing all they were capable of. The growth of self-actualization (Maslow, 1962) refers to the need for personal growth and discovery that is present throughout a person’s life.
