The primary way of the spreading of MRSA in the community is thru unwashed hands. The family pet is one of the recently discovered means of transmission. One case study was using pet therapy in visiting gerontology wars at hospitals. Also transmission of MRSA with equipment in athletic facilities. Patient education in the home setting is very important. Along with proper hand washing techniques they need to learn a out proper wound care, laundering of infected clothing and linens, and personal hygiene. Hand washing is important after wound care, changing of soiled linens or dressings. You need this to keep down the chance of spreading onto surfaces around the home that could contaminate others. There was a case study were MRSA lived on a sterile package for more than 37 weeks. Disinfecting doorknobs, handles, ect. around the home should be done frequently. Any disinfecting should be done with a 1:100 bleach solution. If using nail clippers ect. on patient disinfect them with this bleach solution or 70%alcohol. If the infected person is a child the toys and shared items need to be sanitized in this solution
