New inventions that were discovered in the era of World War I made fighting techniques more efficient. This war was the turning points for new and useful weapons. Before this point the methods to warfare were very simple and straight forward, now with planes in the air creating a whole other dimensions to tactics and strategy, tanks that covered the ground, and torpedoes in the water. Times were changing and if you were lagging behind you may have been defeated by other nations. Some of the biggest changes to the scenes was the invention of machine guns, poisonous gases/ chemical warfare, and trench warfare.
At the Battle of Mons, the advancing Germans believed that they were under fire from British machine guns. In fact, it was the well drilled infantry of the BEF using their standard issue Lee Enfield. A good infantryman would expect to shoot off about twelve well-aimed bullets in a minute. These two examples of weaponry use is significant as it shows how the Crimean war was a turning point to land warfare, both of the wars are similar in that they both use rifles, however as time went on the weapons had been improved. However since the Crimean war rifles have been used in many wars, and been chosen over the use of muskets.
Later, at the Battle of Cambrai, they were to be used to much greater effect. Also, because the tank was new technology, soldiers did not know how to use them as not much training had been given. In order to succeed, the new technology had to be used to the greatest effect, which involved employing good tactics. However, these were slightly lacking on the British side. The tanks, which was a newly developed piece of machinery, could have been used much more effectively had the right tactics been applied.
Some want it removed entirely, and others want the amendment to be expanded greatly. I am not arguing that the right to bear arms should be taken away. I do, however, strongly believe that the law needs to be restricted and should continuously change over time, the same way that society and technology change. When the right to bear arms was given to the people, it was given for hunting, sporting, and protection purposes. Many of the guns and ammunition of today are far more powerful than anything needed for those reasons.
The UAV used at the AWE was the Hunter, which was not expected to become part of the Army's inventory. The Hunter required too much manpower and a large operating field. The Outrider, a tactical UAV then in development, was expected to be more proficient and require less support resources. However, the Hunter helped prove the value of UAVs to ground combat units. The Javelin was a winner to the point that light infantrymen were being flown around in helicopters in Javelin packages to attack tanks.
The Impact of Technology on the Armed Forces Abstract The paper will look at how technology has impacted on certain sections of the armed forces, focusing on how modern developments in computer hardware and software are helping to revolutionise the military forces. The aim is to show how the military use modern technology and Information systems to reduce costs and maximise usage of all its components. 1.0 Introduction Information systems have been around for decades and are growing more and more powerful. Berkowitz suggests that ‘The next wars will be fought not just on battlefields but also in the world’s computer systems...No-one has felt the effects of the Information revolution more that the world’s military forces’ (1). The technology used has advanced with time and as time has passed, this technology became the central nerve system of the military.
With the recurrent expansion of scientific knowledge and technology in today’s society, new inventions, theories, and ideas are frequently brought into practice. All though new technologies and advancement in understanding of the world around us is crucial to scientific expansion, the outcomes of these ideas aren’t always positive. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the original practices of Eugenics both serve as correlations to vast and ever-growing scientific universe. These two works can be related in their ability to serve as sources of caution during innovation of science. Nevertheless, both Frankenstein and Eugenics can also be dissimilar from that of one another.
Luckily, by the time that World War II came about protective masks called, gas masks had been invented. This resulted in a decrease of use in World War II compared to World War I, however it did not totally destroy the effort (“Poison Gas and World War Two”). There were many different purposes for gas warfare during World War I and II, gases could do anything from merely disabling soldiers, to killing hundreds at a time. The reasoning behind gas warfare was that it was something easy to use, but yet highly effective. The French were truly the first to use gas warfare, but many only know Germany’s usage as the first.
Gun control is a world known and difficult issue that the United States struggles with. Throughout history firearms have always played an important role in the lives of Americans. History also shows that the rising amount of gun owners correlates with the rising amount of gun related crimes. There are those who believe that enforcing tighter regulations and background checks will help in ending gun related violence. Then there are those who believe that they have “the right to bear arms”.
The musket, armed with its bayonet as well as the cannon proved to be worthy weaponry advancements in the infantry together with various pistols. The Civil War introduced the revolving pistol as well as the Gatling gun which enabled soldiers to produce rapid fire and destroy enemies in large quantities with a single round. New technological advancements in transportation such as the railroad, enabled large quantities of troops to travel to a given area in nearly half the amount of time. However, the turn of the twentieth introduced new technological advancements in the country as well as the military. This ignited a century of technological advancements in the military that has enabled the United States to excel in militaristic domination.
