On the other hand, questionnaires tend to be used by sociologists as they provide less ethical issues than other research methods. Interpretivists say that questionnaires are more likely to impose the researcher’s own meanings rather than revealing what the respondents’ actual
Also, we need to consider cultural relativity, which means that certain actions may be accepted in some cultures but not all, like Western cultures are different to Eastern. For deviation from social norms, there is always the chance of social norms changing between cultures and over time, this means that people’s conceptions of abnormality will also change as both those factors affect how humans see the world. For example, in 1973, homosexuality was regarded as a sexual illness but nowadays, it is not as discriminated against, even if some people consider it wrong, the vast majority accept it. Also, the classification of abnormality can only be based on the context in which the behaviour occurs, as in the difference between changing in a bathroom and changing in the classroom.
Culture can affect practice of anti-discrimination though there being miscommunication though different ideas of body language that's in a person's culture, for example there's different ways of saying hello in cultures. Culture can also cause discriminatory practice though language barriers, this may cause problems though their not being a translator, the doctors or social workers can be discriminatory in the way of not getting someone to communicate or though not asking the patient what they want for their treatment e.g. whether they need
This in terms would make it difficult for them to try to describe the many other colors that are not in their language. It would be hard to describe in their culture the many colors that of the English language has. Their perceptions of this does change and effect how anyone views the world because one’s vocabulary is limited. Provide two examples of ways in which language affects thought from your own experience? Persuasion would be a way that can effect anyone’s thoughts and experience.
As James Rachels said, “Cultural Relativism might be true, but it might lead to some consequences, such as no longer being able to say that the customs of other societies are morally inferior to ours, or we could decide whether actions are right or wrong just by consulting the standards of our society and even the idea of moral progress would be called into doubt.” Cultural Relativism has some good advantages; it helps us to keep an open mind about other people´s beliefs. On the other hand, Cultural Relativism is not a good system that should be followed by each culture separately because there are some universal rules that should be followed, for instance no murder. Laws should be created under morality, and they might not be perfect, but they are the best rules that we as humans have. Even though societies still have arguments about their beliefs because it is impossible to have complete peace because of our differences. For example, For the Greeks it was believed that it was wrong to eat the dead, whereas the Callatians believed it was right to eat the dead, or the Eskimos saw nothing wrong with infanticide, whereas Americans believed infanticide is immoral.
This is in direct contradiction with the works of Paul. Most people believe that the apparent contradiction is a misinterpretation of the works. They believe this is misinterpreted because the two epistles were written to two different societies in two different ages, but they do in fact carry the same message. As I stated in the
Aakanksha Ardhapurkar January 14, 2012 TOK Different Cultures Have Different Truths In today’s world, truth is a word that has multiple meanings, but the traditional meaning is ‘conformity to truth or actuality.’ However, the statement ‘different cultures have different truths’ implies that culture affects the truth; so different cultures believe in different truths. If we believe that different cultures do have different truths, then it means that every person has had a different upbringing, in turn meaning that they have had different experiences that define their values for them. This belief, which is also known as cultural relativism, implies that when a person belongs to a different culture, that person has had a completely different upbringing, and experiences, due to which their truths differ from yours. The existence of different cultures means that a person has a different set of values, and can believe in a statement to a different extent than someone else, because of that person’s experiences and knowledge filters are different. An example of cultural relativism is that Hindus think of cows as being sacred and do not eat beef.
Winning the contest means surrendering to the viewer's gaze. Berger notes that other cultures do not hold the same attitude towards female nudity. In other words, ways of seeing are for Berger in fact ways of subjecting, and these differential ways of seeing/subjecting which distinguish a man's stance in the world for that of women's have a long history in western culture and are, at least partly, the cause of gender differences which
Different cultures “judge” pornography in different ways in different periods of time. There are a various lines around what is acceptable and what is obscene among various culture based on morality. For instance, nowadays nudity in public is tended to be acceptable in Western culture but still unacceptable in both Far and Middle East Asia. If the news above public in Eastern it is obvious to be immoral. It is not going to be an argument about it is art or not.
If someone is acting suspicious or look nasty or thuggish, yes they are going to gain people’s attention. . “I can avoid spending time with people whom I was trained to mistrust and who have learned to mistrust my kind or me.” I do not agree with the author of this essay. Yes, some things do seem to favor one race or gender than others but the majority of the situations were just overkill. Yes, the white race it’s the majority.
