My first visit to Mexico was the best experience I had ever had, and to this date I have never forgotten it. My parents, brother and I decided to take a trip to Mexico for many different reasons. We hadn’t seen our family members that live in Mexico ever since we came to live I the U.S. Last time we were in Mexico was about 11 years ago, so it was time to revisit it. It was also time for a vacation, because we hadn’t been out from Salinas in a very long time. To me visiting the town I was born in was the most important, because I wanted to know where I came from.
Refutation I: Mexican students should get financial aid. Most Mexicans study in the U.S because they plan to live in there. * The main reason why Mexicans decide to study in the U.S is because they are escaping from the drug cartel violence in Mexico. They are planning to create a new life in the United
I personally feel that as a American born citizen, all immigrants need to learn English. This is an English speaking country and yes Spanish is a great thing to know, it is not up to the American people to be able to communicate with people that weren’t even born here. If I was to move to Mexico and live there, it would be very hard for me to communicate with the citizens of that country. It would be crucial for me to learn the Spanish language because that is what the Mexican community expects. They would not learn English and use it as a primary language when Spanish has been theirs for years.
The transfer was complete in 1853 with the Gadsden Purchase. Almost overnight, the Mexican population of this region became a minority group. At this time land rights for Mexicans living in the new US territories were often ignored. New laws were passed that encouraged white settlers to occupy land that traditionally been held by Mexicans. Since court proceedings
Right? Wrong? And yet, as a person of Hispanic heritage, all of the above are labels that I had to deal with on a daily basis. Our textbook states, “Our self-concept is influence by our beliefs about how others perceive us.” (McCormack, 42). So when I started to believe that being of Hispanic heritage was a bad thing, I began to see myself as someone that needed to hide and in some cases I deny my own heritage.
Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, and Spanish Americans are four of these groups that have expanded throughout the United States. Spanish is the sole language of Mexicans. Mexican Americans speak a slang dialect and varies depending on the amount of time in the United States and how much education he or she has. Most Mexicans migrate to America in the surrounding states of Mexico. Mexicans traditionally have bigger families, but over the years the rate has declined.
Although, United States has presence in Puerto Rico, the island has maintained it’s cultural. Over the years, there has been controversy regarding statehood in Puerto Rico and whether it should become a state, remain a commonwealth, or become independent. This decision has been split with families from both the United States and Puerto Rico; both sides have genuine arguments. Some fear that the transitions will Americanize the population and Puerto Rican’s will lose their cultural, including the bilingual status. The country is already bilingual and individuals are taught both English and Spanish.
Many think that the welfare system has kept Puerto Ricans in a cycle of poverty however; others think that it is discrimination in education and schooling is their biggest problem. Like Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans are predominately Roman Catholic which also plays in to their educational and political views. There is still a debate over whether or not Puerto Rico should remain a commonwealth, becomes a state, or be separated from the United States altogether. (Hispanic American Diversity, 2008) Most Puerto Rican people consider themselves to be American but are very loyal to their island heritage. Their culture is very family- oriented and family relations tend to be their foundation.
History and Issues of Mexican Immigration to the United States of America Jennifer Alfs Regis University Abstract The United States was founded and settled by immigrants from other countries seeking wealth and freedom from religious obligations. Even to this day, individuals from countries all over the globe, especially Mexico, have the hope and dream of moving to America in search of freedom from the devastated economies, natural disasters, and oppressive dictators in the countries they leave behind. When the unfathomable terrorist attacks of 9/11 occurred, immigrants coming to America from other countries, even Mexico, raised concerns for our national security of the safety of our citizens. Congress is in tough debate over how to
Travesties in Mexico Definitely Mexico and its culture it’s very conservative in many aspects of the life, and for this reason the life of a Mexican citizens is governed by hard and sometimes extreme social rules. Specially those social rules are extremely enforced in Who are you as a person?, focusing that question in issues related by sex, gender and sexuality.
