FAITH Zakiebeituo Metha 1. Introduction: Faith is derived from the Greek word ‘pistis’ and latin word ‘fides’. It means an inner attitude, conviction, or trust relating man to a supreme God or ultimate salvation[1]. Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. The present dimension of faith is the life of obedience in which the believer demonstrates his or her faithfulness to God out of gratitude and love for the one whom he or she unconditionally trusts[2].
The main goal of practicing Yoga is to become free of rebirth. As aforementioned, the atman is believed to “transmigrate after death” (Textbook G-10). This means that inside each person is an atman, or soul, that is desperately attempting to be freed from rebirth. The only way to attain this freedom is with total realization through deep Yogic meditation (Lecture, Sep. 5). These meditators are said to be “at one with and centered in the atman” after long periods of trance (Textbook 310).
In terms of similarities, the concept of Nirvana is quite the same between the two. Buddhists believe that Nirvana is a state of freedom. It is when a being turns into a non-being like turning something into nothing. Jainism declares Nirvana as a state of Moksha. The being will tend to lose its identity.
I showed him the website http://www.nhpco.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3254 . On this website there was a brief video that helped him learn more about this care. After determining that this family had internet access, I also gave his daughter Jane Smith the website information in case she would like to look into it. I printed off information that I felt they did not retain very well and showed them how to use the tools
Additionally, both believe in the spiritual practices such as meditation, yoga, concentration, and cultivation of states of mind, called mindfulness. While Hinduism and Buddhism share similarities, they also celebrate differences; Hinduism is not founded by any particular prophet and Buddhism was founded by Buddha and Buddhists do not believe in the existence of souls like Hindus, neither do they believe in the sacred texts of the Vedas or any other Hindu scripture. Refuge in the Buddha, the Sangha and Dhamma are the three fundamental requirements of the eight fold path while Hinduism offers many choices to its followers for
Without having inner peace, you cannot have outer peace. Buddhists practice ethical behavior, meditation, and devotion. Ethical behavior is “an essential component of the Buddhist spiritual path” (Landaw). Buddhism is considered the “religion of meditation” and the purpose is not to calm the mind or become uncaring, the purpose is to “experience the profound and ultimately liberating insight into the nature of reality and yourself” (Landaw). The main study for their devotion became known as The Three Jewels, which are Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha- (the great teacher, his teachings, and the spiritual
The incessantly interesting feature of Zen Buddhism is that there is no dogma, philosophy or doctrine one must believe in to be a Zen Buddhist (“Buddhist beliefs”). O’Hara describes Zen as a “practice of coming back to the actual right-now-in-this-moment self, coming back to the naturalness, the intimacy and simplicity of our true nature.” In A History of Zen Buddhism, Dumoulin quotes Bodhidharma, a highly regarded teacher of Buddhism, as describing Zen in the following way: A special tradition outside the scriptures; No dependence upon words and letters; Direct pointing at the soul of man; Seeing into one's own nature, and the attainment of Buddhahood. One who attained this type of faith is called a Muhsin. He will do as best as he can to worship Allah, to obey to Allah’s command and do what pleases Him. This is the level of righteousness, perfection, as well as doing and saying the ultimate good for the sake of goodness. Surah An-Nahl (16:90):
Vipassana meditation, also commonly known as insight meditation, (the Pali word passana means ‘to see with open eyes,’ and vi, means through) is India’s most ancient meditation technique. Although it was discovered by the enlightened one, Buddha, vipassana meditation is not a religious practice, as it does not rely on any deity or spirit. It depends solely on the efforts of oneself. Vipassana meditation is a way of self-transformation through self-awareness and establishing deep connections with the mind and body to aim for an enlightened state of true happiness and the termination to suffering. The history of the practice is centered on dharma- the law of nature and way to liberation, which Buddha preached during his forty-five years in ministry.
