Between 1947 and 1971, Muslims increased from 2 700 to 22 300. The founding community of Islam in Australia consisted of Afghans, however Muslims have immigrated to Australia from a range of countries, including Turkey, Indonesia, Pakistan, Lebanon and Yugoslavia. This is due to several reasons. Lebanese migrants, for example, began arriving in larger numbers after the outbreak of the civil war in Lebanon in 1975. Mosques play a significant role in both the community identity and the religious practice of Muslims, and since the 1970s Muslim communities have developed many mosques, as well as Islamic centres and schools, and made vibrant contributions to the multicultural fabric of Australian
What are the main differences and similarities in the everyday lives of the 1960s working class and middle class Australians compared to today's shoppers at Hillgate, Eastside and Rosedale? What do these differences and similarities suggest about how social class has changed over the past 40 years? There are many factors which differentiate those of today and those in the 1960’s, during the 60’s in Australia, the working and lower classes were still able to hold steady full time jobs and easily be able to invest in the future e.g. buying homes. (p400 text 2) The “flexibility” which emerged in the workforce in the early 70’s which has carried on to today has created a lazier and poorer society such as those that visit Rosedale shopping centre
The trends will be described in terms of Australian statistics and findings, and then compared to other parts of the world and their individual findings on the trends. Economic and social dimensions will also be included for a better understanding of the evolution of each trend. Part Time Work Part time work (defined in Australian terms by an employee who usually works 35 hours a week or less) has become an increasingly popular style of work recently in response to changing labour force demographics. Major reasons cited for the increase in part time work since the 1980’s are employer demands for flexibility, increasing female labour force participant rates, more workers choosing part time work to assist with family work life balance, the need to retain skilled workers, and concentration of part time work in industry sectors

Cultural Diversity in the Nursing Workplace Culture is defined as “the sum total of behavioural norms, methods of communication, patterns of thinking, and beliefs and values of a designated group of people that can be passed down to the next generation” (Koutoukidis, Stainton & Hughson 2013, p. 115) Australia is a melting pot of diverse cultures. It is a multicultural nation due to the following facts: about 4 in 10 Australians are migrants or the offspring of migrants, one in four Australians were born overseas, and about 13.7% of migrants come from non-English speaking countries and migrants from 160 countries call Australia home. (HLTHIR403B: Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers 2010, p. 7) The above-mentioned facts have an immediate impact on your nursing career and how you work with others. In doing so, you must learn and understand the different cultures of your workmates; therefore you have to be culturally appropriate and responsive. You must be able to work harmoniously and carry out duties and responsibilities properly.

The DIBP client service charter sets out an aim of answering 85% of calls to the department within 2 minutes. In early 2012 the MSC changed its performance targets for staff.
