Family of Woodstock, Inc. Paper BSHS/355 November 3, 2014 This paper will discuss the factors that led the founders to create the Family of Woodstock as well as discuss how they were dedicated to accomplish meeting the needs of the community. Moreover, the discussion will include information on how the values, attitudes, and beliefs of the organization developed and changed over a 40-year period, and how the changes have affected the way they deliver services. Lastly, it will examine how specialization has become a trend in the human services delivery. In 1969 there was a festival called “Woodstock” that took place in a city 115 miles away from a small town with that actual name. A lot of the attendees of the Woodstock Festival brought a minuscule amount of personal belongings or food with them. There was an influx of young people sleeping on lawns, sleeping in parks, getting arrested and looking for food. The community…show more content…
The founders were vehemently committed to idea that the staff would not tell people what to do nor pass judgment on them. Instead they were instructed to listen and encourage those who came for help to make choices that would be beneficial. For all intents and purposes, they have become a noteworthy agency for individuals and families seeking assistance in the areas of homelessness, domestic violence, emergency services, child services and adolescent services. The Family of Woodstock provides a lot of shelters and housing programs such as: Family House (a runaway and homeless youth facility), Darmstadt Shelter for the homeless (a facility primarily for men and women who are in various stages of recovery), The Family Inn (a shelter for homeless families) The Washbourne House (a domestic violence shelter for women and their children).
