Sugar Creek: Life on the Illinois Prairie John Mack Faragher’s book, Sugar Creek: Life on the Illinois Prairie, was written in 1986. The book brings a great picture about the lives of people who lived in Illinois in 1800s. In it, Faragher examined the development of the Sugar Creek area of Sangamon County, Illinois from 1817 through the 1880s. Faragher began his project on Sugar Creek in order to understand more about early nineteenth-century Americans who lived in the Midwest and the change of life of people in the particular area of the Illinois Prairie. As Professor Don H.Doyle says on the book that: “This is the story of birth and development of a rural American community, from its origins at the turn of the nineteenth century to the years that followed the Civil War.

Naomi Klein starts off with Woodstock 94’ and how evident the drastic change in commercialization is from the first days of the festival in the 1960’s to the one in 1994. For instance the original Woodstock was basically free of advertisements and was kept so that it was more or less just a concert. The 1994 version however was heavily commercialized and was full of ads from companies trying to see their products.
He emphasizes the importance of a mother-son relationship and the effect of family morals. The two epiphanies are intertwined, however, they are different. Neil is experiencing his revelation directly in the story, because his mother is shying away from him. The reader is experiencing the revelation from an outside view, so we can see the bigger picture, and why Neil and Barbara’s relationship is diminishing. The striking part about these revelations is how the author connects with the reader.

The small town became extremely overcrowded as people doubled up on housing and began living in tents on its outskirts. Because of the overcrowding, Sylacauga became overwhelmed and the resulting life quality of the average person living in Sylacauga began to diminish. The street and shops became flooded and people had to wait in huge lines to do simple things, such as send a letter at the post office.
In the summer of 1969, in Bethel New York, a social outcry for a peaceful way of life was heard by the millions of people that attended and watched Woodstock. This three day festival of the arts was unorganized, yet still managed to change the nation, as well as being one hell of a party. It is something that will be talked about until doomsday. Woodstock Artie Kronfeld, Joel Rosenman, Michael Lang, and John Roberts are the four men to thank for the 1969 “Three Days of Peace and Music” Woodstock music festival that changed the United States forever. The legendary festival was given the name “Woodstock” because the original plan was to hold the event in the town of Woodstock in Ulster County, New York. Rumor was that the word got out all over the country, and over a million people were expected to attend. As a result of that, the town of Woodstock offered no land large enough to hold the event. The four men quickly looked for an alternative.
