ALS is a very terrible disease that causes great suffering, and it needs to have a cure found. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a motor neuron disease that is 100% fatal. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is also known as ALS and Lou Gehrig’s Disease (It got the name Lou Gehrig’s Disease from the professional baseball player for the New York Yankees who got ALS and died from it). According to The University of Maryland’s information (2008) the cause of ALS is for the most part unknown except that in 10% of the cases of ALS it’s caused by a genetic defect. ALS causes nerve cells to die, eventually leading to no control of body muscles.
A spill in any of the deep sea areas would reduce the biodiversity of that area through reductions of bird populations, fish-stocks and populations of marine mammals. All of which are already under severe threat of over fishing and habitat disturbance without this imposed threat. Furthermore the contamination of coastal and coral ecosystems will all lead to to damage on the livelihoods of fishermen and people involved the local tourism. Most of the impact of this was experienced by the marine species.

When the world could not speak Octavia E. Butler’s, “Speech Sounds”, an apocalyptic story that portrays how disease has caused the ability to speak impossible and has shattered society and causes many to die from the disease or its latent effects. The loss of speech could impact a society to the point where only the desire to survive is the main focus of human existence. History records periods were naturally occurring diseases have caused unimaginable suffering and the death of millions. These periods involved a slow progressive process that ended in a relatively short period, for instance, The Plague of Europe lasted from 1348 to 1351 and the “death toll throughout Europe was at least 25 million out of a total population of 40 million” (Bugl par.16).” During these times the knowledge of the disease process was unknown because the science of medicine was not as developed as it is today. While “Plague” is still present today it does not affect the speech of those who contract the disease.
Meth addiction harms the body in a horrific way, the drug is made up of chemicals that can kill a person also leading to the addiction, and in order to get over the drug it’s a continuous battle the person must want it for themself, and have the strength over their own mind they can’t be weak or they will fail and relapse. In the beginning use of Meth there are not many changes in appearance, but within a couple months a person’s whole appearance can be changed. The body tends to get very thin, and for most people their skin starts getting picked at leaving open wounds. The appearance can change so fast that the person may not even be recognizable. Not only does the appearance change so do the mind.

Polio is a crippling and potentially deadly infectious disease caused by a virus that spreads from person to person invading the brain and spinal cord and causing paralysis. Because polio has no cure, vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and the only way to stop the disease from spreading. The spread of polio has never stopped in Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan. Polio-virus has been reintroduced and continues to spread in Chad and Horn of Africa after the spread of the virus was previously stopped. In the late 1940s to the early 1950s, in the United States alone, polio crippled around 35,000 people each year making it one of the most feared diseases of the twentieth century.
Meaning that 88% of them have completely gone extinct. The article continues to mention that the last 12% of the bird species may go into extinction within the next century. Many birds are going into extinction mostly because of threats humankind are causing these poor creatures. These birds are facing threats such as "habitat loss, human disasters, and disease." I feel that "extinction" is not something that has to happen, but happens because humans do not take care of the natural world, the way they should.
