And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God. We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans—born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of
These sentences give his speech more depth which can be considered hidden energy. Through antithesis, Kennedy shows his purpose is to target things that they should do by first telling them what they should not do in order to achieve unity and liberty. Declarative sentences show that the speaker is not afraid, not uncertain and is a powerful leader. If Kennedy had shown weakness, the public would not trust him and other countries would try to take advantage of
A rhetorical question is a question that is asked in order to make a point, it is asked merely for effect with no answer expected (Merriam-Webster, 2011). The Rhetorical question that JFK asks in his inaugural speech was: “Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and west, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? Will you join in that historic effort?”(John F. Kennedy) This question basically asks the millions of Americans to join in his efforts, to get behind him and help assure the more “fruitful life. By asking this question he is calling the American people, not only to realize the hostility that had been happening between countries but also to do something and to take action. He is inspiring them to do more for their country and causing them to think what they are willing to do for their country and at what
Kennedy says “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country…” this is said backwards so the Americans start thinking about the country as a whole. He wants to get the American people to help the country instead of helping themselves. Another antimetable he uses is “as not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.” He wants Americans to work together to help the country as a whole. He doesn’t want them to just rely on the government to fix things. Alliteration in J.F.K’s speech helps draw attention to his points.
Kennedy was more known because of his past in becoming and starting the process of becoming president. And King was not known except for the by his family and Friends, and because of his color. These two Type of writings from these very bright men of history. This Speech from Kennedy and
Lasheena Jackson English –Comp 101-25 Midterm “Liberators” In my opinion I believe that the Occupy Wall Street protesters deserve the appellation liberator. The protestors are liberators because there goal was to free American citizens from the current state of the American condition. Even though the protestors were not as organize as they should have been, it is no denying that they was able to spark a movement that quickly expanded across the nation. Addressing these people as occupiers to me is disrespectful because it downsizes all of their efforts to bring awareness to the nation’s current state. Occupy Wall Street protesters were a group of brave individuals who took a stand on the issues that they believed in, they should never be addressed as occupiers.
5/17/12 Through out American history the basic rights we take for granted today were not available to everyone in America. As time progressed more groups of people gained equal rights such as women and eventually Blacks. Without support from Presidents, The Supreme Court and Organizations of Private citizens, many Americans would not have the basic liberties we enjoy today. Organizations of private citizens helped fuel the push to create and equal America. The most influential of all citizens wanting to create equality was Martin Luther King Jr. Martin preached to protest and boycott peacefully.
With Henry appealing to something like faith that the audience members held so dearly he was able to not only capture their attention, but keep their attention and ultimately persuaded them to his sentiments. Henry untimely wanted the audience to know he would rather die for his country then to be without freedom. Within his speech Henry informed the Virginians what they had been doing in an attempt to achieve peace, was not successful nor would it ever be. (2) The receptive audience felt the same sentiments as Henry. Henry’s speech was a pivotal point in American History.
He opens his speech by acknowledging the role of religious groups in the building of the American society. This is an issue that had no coverage in Johnson’s address. While Reagan concentrates on religious beliefs as the instigators of social growth and development, Johnson preferred that use of education and riches as the means to achieve the same goal. This contrast is evident in the way these two presidents gave their opening speeches. The other big contrast between these two speeches is Reagan’s reiteration the freedom and liberty are things that can only be enjoyed with the full blessings of God (Rodgers, 2011, p164).
Perry Moses stands out like new ink freshly place on a piece of paper. In past history, presidents have forgotten about the rights of the people, the desire of the people, and the freedom of the people. They were more focused on treating the people in a bull frog phenomenon, instead of paying attention to them. The fresh new look as a candidate for president of the United States brings great energy and reinstates freedom and equality back to United States of America. With the promise of bringing industry back to the United States and putting Americans back to work should be recognize as his standpoint.
