People are struggling to survive everyday because they have no food and shelter. These people may always dig through the trash to find something to eat for the day, not knowing if they will find anything. Families may always live in horrible conditions, having no other choice, because they do not have enough money. It’s extremely hard for them to find well paying jobs in these countries. For most of these people it’s nearly impossible to get out of poverty because they were born and raised in that culture, unless other people who aren’t in poverty help them out.
In order to feel a sense of belonging, an individual must gain stability in relationships and connections within a community. The inability to create stable connections or relationships will inevitably result in alienation. Throughout the poem “Migrant Hostel” by Peter Skryznecki, the focus is on the uncertain and chaotic environment that all the migrants are experiencing while waiting for the news that they are able to begin their new lives. Along with, how the natural instinct of finding similar cultural groups helps the migrants have a sense of belonging. “No one kept count of all the comings and goings” this shows the migrants feeling of uncertainty and temporariness as their inability to keep track of what was unfolding around them made them worries and also confused .
Reb cares about his Judaic books more than anything else, including his family. “When we came to America, instead of taking along feather beds, and the samovar, and the brass pots and pans, like other people, father made us carry his books” (pg. 8). Being a father of the “Old World” and following strict traditions, Reb Smolinsky is not able to earn money in America. His lack of education, as well as his attitude toward women, and his steadfast grip on old traditions does not allow him to work and thus he cannot provide a steady income for his family.
Recently growth has been restricted, due in part to recent fines from state and government agencies for poorly kept records for both clients and employees. Recently APremium has not been able to respond to the staffing demands of the newer clients in remote regions, their employee lists have become overwhelming and very difficult to filter through in time to be useful in responding to staffing deficiencies on short notice. The field staff has been complaining that payroll is always late and many of the skilled laborers are threatening to leave. APremium is seeking another contract with a very delicate group of clients who require premium care and attention to code. This contract can increase their business by 75%.
The reservations were not set on the best land; those were given to white Americans. These grounds could not be harvested and due to corruption settlers driving them even further away into smaller reservations constantly invaded them. Continuous struggles continue to cause the Indian’s numbers to dwindle and their culture to almost vanish. The main standard of living as a tribe that has greatly helped them to survive was now being replaced by the individualism of new American ideals. In accordance with the Native Nations website, one example of the terrible conditions the Indians had to live under the U.S government and the reservations took place in May of 1868 when at the Bosque Redondo Reservation two-thousand Indians perished and
(Omelas, 259). The fact these people do not know of a world outside their own is another reason they believe so strongly someone must struggle for many to prosper. “They also got along without the stock exchange, the advertisement, the secret police, and the bomb”. (Omelas, 259). The people of the village in Omelas were some who no longer knew happiness or joy which played a major role in the way their victims were made to suffer.
As well as the living and food conditions being substandard, that was also the case for the education. It was not the high-class or even regular standard education level that the European children received, so once the aboriginal children were out of school it was very challenging for them to live in the mainstream European society. Being that the children were are the school for ten months of the year they also lacked a sense of family and community living. The children were always separated by gender and so if you had a sibling of the opposite gender you rarely got the chance to talk to them. The lack of family living skills can also be blamed on the fact that the schools taught the children to only speak in English, so when they went home they were unable to communicate with their family as they lost their native language.
We have been called “the melting pot”. Because people come here from different countries, they almost always can not speak English. Some people learn it quickly, for some it may take time, and others never learn it at all. This all may depend on a person’s financial ability to pay for an English course or the rate at which people learn. I don’t think the lack of desire to learn is a common reason as to why people never learn to speak English while living in this country.
Also, you have to have the proper paper work, such as birth certificate, social security number, and in poor countries most people never get their hands on their documents, because of government, and in some places this paper work is never even created (Alvarez 1). Also, poor housing and natural disasters can cause you to lose things of this sort. In poorer foreign countries if they get this documentation it may be the only copy of it. So, if it is lost there is no getting it back of replacing
Either they’re not poor enough, they’re not poor in the right way ‘ or they need the money for the wrong reasons. The reading in the book Keeping Woman and Children Last, showed time and time again the shocking stories of how people fall into poverty after living a middle class life for decades. Reasons pertaining to illness, death, unemployment, divorce and accidents left these people with nothing and the government would refuse to help them. These people are called the “New Poor”(Sidel, 1998, p.60). Their social security and pensions are not enough for them to live on so they must rely on these funds
