In other words he told the society that they are stuck on unserious matters, while important political events are taking place. Bill Clinton’s goal was to make people get over the scandalous relationship and concentrate on America as a nation or basically subconsciously reproached the nation. Mr. Clinton, in this speech built the next strategy: not to fit the stereotype of a man bringing his apologies, not to be miserable, but to show how strong he is by saying these words aloud and therefore to how strong he can be in any other problem. He claimed to apologize, but at the
This theory is not as totally outlandish as it may initially seem. Of course when first hearing it, one could wonder why would the man so close to the president and in a seat of such power have the president killed. Well, although the vice president is supposed to protect the president, LBJ definitely had his reasons for wanting JFK assassinated. Firstly, with Robert Kennedy as the Attorney General, LBJ who had been in politics for a long time did not want some young lawyer who was new to the position and didn’t quite know how to do the job yet. Also, there may have been a great fear of a Kennedy dynasty.
When Sadaam took over Kuwait he was after the Kuwaiti Oil. Iraq wanted to be the second largest to Saudi Arabia in Oil production and only could achieve this by taking over Kuwaiti soil. The Gulf War turned out to be a hard fought war led by the United States of America and George Bush’s Administration. The Bush Administration was determined not let Kuwait be walked over by a stronger country in Iraq. This administration was not entering into this war without its own interests addressed since they received $6 billion (US) from Kuwait in support for the United States forces.
Some more prime examples of heroification are our presidents. In the book, Loewen says that American textbooks aim to include at least a paragraph about every president in the history of the United States, even if they weren’t all that important. (5) Woodrow Wilson is considered one of the better presidents even though, like many presidents he had unknown flaws. For example, in the book it says, “when describing our Mexican adventures: they identify Wilson as ordering our forces to withdraw, but nobody is specified as having them ordered in! (18)”.
It is interesting to note that this film almost paralleled to a point, the real life scandal of President Clinton and his threats of military action against Iraq; the film started production before the Lewinsky scandal, but opened up after it happened. To pull of the ‘war without a war’ idea, they turned to Hollywood; more specifically to Hollywood producer Stanley Motss to pull it off. So Motss and crew start planning and executing this fake war; they come up with slogans to support the war and the cause, recruit a singer to come up with a moving theme song (shades of Lee Greenwood? ), and even come up with actors to portray the needed parts. More importantly are the ‘leaks’ that are let out to the media; something that the media is more than willing to run with.
"You're either with us or against us”1 Barack Obama is called by many a great politician, though also called a terrible politician by many as well. However, what makes a great politician? Is it someone who can lead a country wisely and safely? Or is it someone who knows how to manipulate people? George Bush spoke the previous quote to other countries in order to force them to enter the war on terror with America.
Over the past 200 years, power in the U.S. has shifted towards the President; President Regan, who wanted to give power back to the states instead of centralizing it, challenged this. Our current President, Barrack Obama, sides with President Roosevelt’s New Deal policy, which attempts to centralize power. President Obama caused great excitement with his ideas of change for America, but his administration is far less popular today due to policies he implemented. President Nixon argued against the notion that the President is becoming to powerful, stating that if we did in fact have an “Imperial” Presidency, then reelection would be much easier, but since President Roosevelt, we have only seen five reelections. The
Both candidates were in favor of continuing the war on Iraq. Many Americans believed money and military presence should be focused within our borders. Another reason that Americans support a third party deals with the competitive nature of the political arena. Some feel that both Democrats and Republicans aim to win the race, not to solve problems. Many Americans blame third parties for the lack of voter turnout.
I could blame the defeat which would have been the result of my action on him and come out as Peacemaker…But I had a greater obligation than to think only of the years of my administration and of the next election. I had to think of the effect of my decision on the next generation and on the future of peace and freedom in America and in the world.” However, this idealistic standpoint was mere propaganda. In private, President Nixon would favour a more militant and aggressive approach. This contradictory position not only exposed Nixon’s vulnerability to public opinion, but also his disillusion and misunderstanding of the complexities of such a war. It is imperative to understand the factors which influenced President Nixon’s strategies and decision making during the Vietnam War.
Due to the change in presidency from Obama to Trump, many policies that Obama established have come up in the Republican government on whether or not those laws should still be in place. Because the Democrats view immigration as something that should be protected and Republicans view immigration as something that needs stronger laws, there is a controversial discussion among the two. The Republican government is against illegal immigration and they provide Congress with ideas in order to convince America that illegal immigrants are not beneficial to the average working American; therefore, they provide all the reasoning they can in order to broadcast the drawbacks of illegal immigration. A study done by Carroll Doherty, bachelors in political science, shows how Republicans, more specifically Trump supporters, shows reasons why Republicans think illegal immigration is not beneficial for America. In Doherty’s study, he states, that among all of the strong Trump supporters, “59 percent associate unauthorized immigrants with serious criminal behavior,” and therefore do not benefit American workers (Doherty, 2016).
