The Zulu Nation Tonia Rodriguez ANT101: Introduction to Cultural Anthropology (GSF1242N) Instructor: Sabina Trumble November 18, 2012 Even with westernization being promenade in the current world, the Zulu people have proved to be resilient people because of their rich history, traditions and emphasis on family. The Zulus’ are located in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal. They are intricate people dating back to 2000 BC. Collected of strong family and moral values with a focus on traditions the Zulu Nation lives and governs their people the same now, as years past. From the Chief, to the young boys and girls, every position is important and structured. Although our times have changed, not a great deal has altered for these natives. Around the year 2000 BC there is evidence of migration of people called Zulu who belonged to the Naguni speaking people. However it isn’t until 1816-1826 that Shaka-Zulu founded the Zulu Empire. He was a great and mighty leader that taught the Zulu men how to fight off the British. He also trained them to use many weapons. Although, as time went on, and after many wars, he started to become mentally unstable. He began ordering the deaths of his own people for no reason at all. In the year 1828, he was killed by two of his own half brothers. The Zulu people are located in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal between the Indian Ocean and the Drakensberg. They are also bordered by Swazi to the North, Basotho to the West and Xhosa and Mpondo to the South. Once located here they have not migrated. In the pre-mid 19th century the Zulu people were a horticulture people. The primary or staple crop for them was maze, better known today as corn.
