Abraham Pop French 4 12/15/11 Pd. 8 Zinedine Zidane Every since I was a little kid I’ve watched Zidane play. I have always wanted to be a professional soccer player. I looked up to players like Zidane, Ronaldo, and Beckham. I think we can all agree that Zidane is one of the greatest soccer players to have ever played the game. Even though he had some moments in his career that maybe he shouldn’t done. I still think that he is an amazing soccer player and I admire his great talent. Zidane was born in Marseille, France on June 23, 1972. He was of Algerian decent, his parents had moved to Paris, France in 1953. Right before the Algerian war. They lived in the northern part of Paris, so his family found little work. So in Mid 60s they moved to the northern region of Marseille suburb, La Castellane were Zidane was born. Zidane had 3 older brothers and 1 older sister. He was the youngest of 5. Zidane's father worked as a warehouseman at a department store, often on the night shift, while his mom was home all the time. It was at La Castellane that Zidane had his earliest introduction to Soccer, joining in at the age of five. Zidane’s idols while he was growing up were: Blaž Slišković, Enzo Francescoli and Jean-Pierre Papin. He got his first players license at the age of 10 playing for a Local Club in La Castellane. His teams name in La Castellane was US Saint-Henri. After being there for a year and a half he joined Septemes Valons, When the Septemes coach convinced the club’s Director to get Zidane. At 14 he was selected to join a 3-day training camp at the CREPS. It was there were a Cannes Scout saw Zidane and recommended him to the training center director of the club. Zidane went to Cannes only for 6 weeks but ended up staying for 4 years to play at the professional level. He left his family at the age of 14 to go play for Cannes; he was invited by Cannes
