A Raisin in the Sun Essay Have you ever wanted something so bad, and then once you got it things didn’t go as planned? Good things come to those who wait, but when you have the greed for money some people will do anything. When money is on the table, a man will learn who you can and can’t trust. Money should not be put before happiness and the happiness of your family members, but many people forget that when their eager about success. Everyone’s dream is to be wealthy and successful, but that shouldn’t persuade a person to be selfish towards others.
After reading and getting a sense or idea of what wilding is, things made more sense. I do believe that the idea of wilding can make people go crazy or obsess about their greed and the only thing stopping us all from wilding is not understanding what wilding is. I also believe that people would rather take shortcuts to being wealthy other than working hard and earning it. Like what Derber said, “Many signs point to a corruption of the American Dream in out time. Most Americans do not become killers to make it up the ladder or to hold on to what hey have, but the traditional restraints on naked self-aggrandizement seem weaker-and the insatiability greater” (Derber, p. 14).
The best was to become who you want to be is get an education in a good field that you know you can do the rest of your life that pays decent, stick it out through thick and thin and it will pay off. Being smart with your money is a big part. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Remember that time is money.” I couldn’t agree with that statement more. You could spend your time doing something that doesn’t earn you money or spending you could be working and making money instead or just saving money. Some say “money can not buy happiness.” Well someone with a decent amount of money that they worked for sure is happy.
You don’t always have to spend, spend, spend to have fun, fun , fun. That being said, the saying is true “the best things in life are free.” Another purpose I came up with about Anna Quindlen’s “Stuff is Not Salvation,” is tp show the reader that people buy too much and don’t appreciate the things that really mean a lot. She thinks that when they buy and buy more and more that they are making themselves happy, then probably later somehow end up in debt and could possibly lose it all. Back in the day my older brother had always appreciated what he got for his birthday, whatever the occasion may have been. He had always taken pride and
The only issue I could think of would be people are not sure that this constant focus on happiness is healthy or desirable. Look at our earth, our economy, the state of our citizens, healthcare, corruption. For some people it could be hard to stop thinking about the the bad in the world and mindlessly ignore
Advertisement, commonly viewed as a way to promote a product, is more than what it seems. In the present day, critics view advertisements as a propaganda that guides the audience the wrong direction. Mr. Schrank suggest that some people who watch advertisements are vulnerable to the “ad’s attacks.”(Doc. E) However, I disagree, advertisements are informative to our daily lives; without them our world would probably fall apart. They do just more than promote a product; an advertisement helps wage for jobs, educate people, and also explains how to make our lives better.
The Good Life The first thing that comes to mind when I think of the things that make me “happy”, I think of love, stability and wealth. This is probably true for most people, with a few variations of course. One definition of happiness could be the state in which we have everything and what nothing. Someone is happy because everything he or she could ever want has been acquired so there is no wants. Plato had a completely different view of happiness.
Epictetus would look down on modern Western civilization for its rampant materialism -- nowadays, it seems that it requires vast amounts of money to be happy. Epictetus, however, suggested that we don't need money to be happy. In fact, he stated that we don't need any external things to be happy. He concluded that happiness results from attaining virtue and valuing only that which we can control. Happiness Follows from Virtue Epictetus asserted that while there is no inherent problem in seeking material comfort, the only true good thing is virtue because only virtue can be beneficial in all situations; thus virtue would not ever fail to bring happiness.
Feeling helpless due to the economy they become addicted to claiming help from other sources other than themselves because it just seems easier. Thomas argues,” Anyone who thinks dysfunctional government is going to help their dreams is putting their faith in the wrong place.” In other words, the government cannot help everyone. Instead we should but putting our faith into ourselves. We are what makes America today, and if we don’t like it, then maybe we should take action and change it. If we were to start by supporting small business, we would be creating more employment, and keeping money in the community.
They could just be lying to get more money for their drugs. They should all at least try to get work a little for the free money they are getting. Even if they cannot find a job they could still contribute to their community. They could volunteer in a soup kitchen or help pick up trash in their community. Even the disabled can help with their community.
