The tremendous eruption of Mount Tambora in April 1815 was the most powerful volcanic eruption of the 19th century. The eruption and the tsunamis it triggered killed tens of thousands of people. And the magnitude of the explosion is difficult to fathom. It has been estimated that Mount Tambora stood approximately 12,000 feet tall before the 1815 eruption, and the top 4,000 feet of the mountain was completely obliterated. Adding to the disaster's massive scale, the huge amount of dust blasted into the upper atmosphere by the Tambora eruption contributed to a bizarre and highly destructive weather event the following year.
For my second historical event, I will be informing you on the 9/11 terrorist attack on the U.S. which relates to the band through one of Green Day’s hit songs, Wake Me Up When September Ends. Green Day is an American punk rock band that originally derived from the band, Sweet Children, which the two 14 year olds Billie Joe Armstrong (lead guitarist, vocalist) and Mike Dirnt (bass; born Mike Pritchard) had formed in Rodeo, California. By 1989, the group had added drummer John Kiffmeyer and changed their name to Green Day. Shortly after the band released their first studio album, 39/Smooth, the band replaced Kiftmeyer with Tre Cool (born Frank Edwin Wright, III); Tre Cool became the band's permanent drummer. Later after playing in the band as a session and touring guitarist for 13 years, Jason White (guitarist and backing vocalist) became a full member.
I did not know much about the sport when I first joined the squad because it was my first year cheering, so; therefore I contributed to the team by being a new member with my own new and unique style. I learned that I enjoy cheering others on when they need it the most. Also, I learned that trying is better than not trying at all. Even though I was not the best cheerleader, at least I tried my best. I learned how to be more sociable with others and I discovered that I need to listen to other people’s opinions instead of just mine.
“As soon as I heard John Bonham play”, recalled Jones, “I knew this was going to be great...we locked together as a team immediately.” They played in front of a live audience for the first time at Gladsaxe, Denmark, on 7th September 1968. Following their time touring as The New Yardbirds, the issue of coming up with a new band name arose. One account of how the new band's name was chosen held that Keith Moon, member of The Rolling Stones, suggested that the group would go down like a “lead balloon”. The group dropped the “a” in lead, so that those unfamiliar with the phrase would not pronounce it “leed”. The word “balloon” was transformed into “zeppelin” exaggerating the humourous situation.
Led Zeppelin did not release songs from their albums as singles in the UK, as they preferred to develop the concept of "album-oriented rock". Thirty years after disbanding following Bonham's death in 1980, the band continues to be held in high regard for their artistic achievements, commercial success, and broad influence. The band have sold over 200 million albums worldwide, including 111.5 million certified units in the United States, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They have had all of their original studio albums reach the top ten of the Billboard album chart in the US, with six reaching the number one spot. Shortly after their first tour, the group's eponymous first album was released on 12th January 1969.
(How Woodstock Happened, n.d.) News began to travel fast of this incredibly large festival. Just four days prior to this authentic show down there was an estimated 50,000 people waiting close to the stage. Because of the massive group that showed before the event took place the four organizers; Roberts, Rosenman, Kornfeld and Lang were unwillingly forced to make the concert free. Once the word got out about the free concert, cops turned
The story of Ono and Lennon became an icon of the XX Century, summarized in numerous public appearances, famous phrases. Nude pictures and album covers, it was a reflection of great music, a lot of antiwar activism and much controversy. In one of these photos, the couple was dressed in white four decades ago in front of the "Gibraltar Peñón" - she was wearing a mini-skirt and wide-brimmed hat, he was with a long hair, his typical glasses and a jacket, holding the certificate of marriage. The next week they were in Amsterdam in their honeymoon promoting their political activism, the "bed-in for peace" with a beatific face, surrounded by flowers and in the middle with his guitar and a lot of messages of "Hair Peace" and "Bed Peace". Other controversial photo was about a idyllic blue sky with a white cloud which they wanted in the first album cover of the Plastic Ono Band, recorded live at the festival
