Women's Rights The history of women and their rights in the United States has been an ongoing battle. Granted, there have been many strides, yet with women as subordinate to men there are still issues that are unresolved. Not only do women have social issues, but also the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) groups have much discrimination too. Unequal rights and discrimination on minority groups are constant debates in the United States society. Women’s status in the United States history was subordinate to the men. They were not allowed to vote, received low grade education, and required to be a homemaker and child bearer. The roles women and men play in this society are a result of learning what is expected of the person in their group. Women still are considered to be the home makers and while raising the children are expected to be thin, beautiful and sexy. Men are still the money makers and head of households. There are studies that say it was taught from childhood, girls play with tea sets and dolls, while the boys build and play with cars. The media is a main source that projects the expectations of what a woman or man should be. In the media, women are portrayed as sex symbols and are considered beautiful if they have large busts, and a tiny waste. Makeup and cosmetics are supposed to make women prettier while raising children and having a career is rarely shown as a positive aspect of being a…show more content…
The link between women and LGBT people is the understanding of the struggles they have gone through in order to get to the freedom they have achieved. The groups realized without organization they would never overcome the issues. The women’s and LGBT groups also understand that they have come this far in the battle of discrimination and equal liberties, there is still more to stand up for and only half the battle has been won. The social issues are acceptance by peers or receiving all the benefits as the counterparts. Political issues remain with equality of lifestyle and rights. Women are struggling with equal wages and opportunity and gays with marriage and health benefits. There have been many accomplishments and as a minority and subordinate, there are still many more issues to clean
