Thou art not conquered. Beauty’s ensign yet is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks” (5.3.101-104). Again, Juliet’s beauty is invulnerable to Death’s grasp. Even up to her death, Romeo cannot sway himself from being taken aback by Juliet’s charm. Incidentally, he refers to Juliet’s life as “honey”, and that it was sucked from her breath.
Such pure beauty thus have, thou have’t poise, grace and etiquette. Her name, I know’st not, but thou nurse say thou be’t of the lady of the house. Has’t my love be my worst enemy? Oh why shall this devilish love be so sinister, the fair maiden of whom I love shall be my sworn enemy before I was born? Oh why, oh
Browning’s poem ‘The Laboratory’ is about a scorned woman’s desired to kill her lover’s mistress, and any other woman he may have had an affair with. ‘The Laboratory’ (Ancient Regime) refers to an older rule or government suggesting that the speaker comes from a past. Love being a profound, tender, passionate affection towards another person. When Romeo meets Juliet for the first time, he describes her asa “snowy dove trooping with the crows”. The word “dove” suggests she is both beautiful and a figure of peace.
Gwen Hardwood The emotive qualities of Gwen Harwood’s poetry resonate with her readers. She uses her own memories to illustrate love for her family, her loss of innocence and the swiftness of time passing. She demonstrates this in her poems Father and Child, The Violets and At Mornington. The poem The Violets opens with the line “It is dusk and cold,” the time of day symbolising that this persona has reached old age and is metaphorically drawing closer to nightfall or the end of her days. Death is made apparent with the negative adjective “cold.” The flowers she is picking at the beginning of this poem are clearly what stimulate her memory of childhood as they are referenced later in the poem.
In Homers Odyssey the sirens are described as luring, tempting, beautiful creatures that show no fear. Odysseus explains all the hardships and troubles him and his ship crew go through to avoid getting lured into the sirens with vivid imagery. “Now with a sharp sword I sliced an ample wheel of beeswax down into pieces, I kneaded them in my two strong hands” tells u that Odysseus isn’t going to take any chances and fight the irresistible song. Odysseus and his crew seem almost helpless when it comes to avoiding the sirens. Odysseus’s desire to listen to their deadly song is portrayed when his heart “throbbing to listen longer.” This helpless sense seems to be present throughout the entire passage.
After reading Macbeths letter, Lady Macbeth is jubilant to the idea of murdering King Duncan. She begins to come up with a plan in killing Duncan to gain the royal crown. She then fills up with pure evil; she evilly scams Macbeth into the sadistic murder. Lady Macbeth says “Look like th’ innocent flower, but be the serpent under’t” In this quotation Lady Macbeth is demanding that Macbeth should act innocent and not guilty, but beneath the kindness and love, be a devious evil man who won’t let anything between the crown and himself. Shakespeare quotes sentences such as ‘Look like th’ innocent flower’, which suggests that lady Macbeth is comparing Macbeth’s behaviour towards a flower.
:”what does this make me think?” (Lynn) (20) When you first meet Rose you are immediately drawn in to the talents of this beautiful woman. Rose is beautiful in body as well as mind and spirit. Violet is in awe of her older sister and hoping to be like her as she grows older.
