| Female prisoners have mostly backgrounds as moms and are worried in prison about their children and family members. They are more subservient than male prisoners and the atmosphere in female prisons is of smaller group like families than prisons for men are. Men are more concerned about themselves and are more self-centered than women. They are less subservient and their prisons are more gang affiliated than women’s prisons are. Women as a result of their backgrounds and concerns have a harder time doing time than men do.
Women have always been thought of as the weaker sex and Sociologists such as Heidensohn argue that men see the need to protect women. Police are more likely to caution a woman for shop lifting than they are a man. Flood-Page et al found that one in eleven female offenders had been cautioned and prosecuted in comparison to one in seven males. Women are also less likely to be prosecuted for an offence and found guilty of offences by juries. This is because women (especially when they have children) are seen first and foremost in the expressive role (mothering and caring).
She felt that his studies were extremely biased to only privileged white men. Unlike Erikson’s eight stages she had only three. Her stages were selfishness, a social or conventional morality, and finally a principled morality. She believed that women had a judgment based on caring for others and that men’s judgment was based on justice and individual rights. The females in her studies were focused on empathy and a responsibility for others.
There are four types of Sex discrimination. Direct discrimination: treating someone less favourably because of their actual or perceived sex, or because of the sex of someone with whom they associate. An example of this could be not employing a woman purely because of her gender. Indirect discrimination: can occur where there is a policy, practice or procedures that applies to all workers, but particularly disadvantages workers of a particular sex. For example, a requirement that job applicants must be six feet tall could be met by significantly fewer women than men.
In “The body of beholder” Michele Ingrassia cited many differences in the way while female look their body and black female look their body. She also refer this as a cultural difference between while and black girls. Ingrassia says that white girls are more obsessed to stay thin than black girls and there are some growing evidences that black and white girls view their body in different ways. I am completely agree with the writer because one can notice clear difference in the way white and black girls view and maintain their body. It seems like white girls are more cautious about looking good than black girls.
Although matt has a lot of forces against him, All that Matt wants is a happy life. One of the forces that push him through the story is his wife. He says in the story, “She can’t even go out for cigarettes and aspirin. It’s killing her”. (104) This shows that Strout is making her distraught.
This meant, cleaning, cooking, caring for the children and husband, etc. Similar to these expectations, the narrator in The Yellow Wallpaper is forbidden from reading and writing. Her husband/ doctor, John, does not allow it because he thinks that putting her on the “rest cure” will help her come out of her depression or mental illness. Little does he know that not allowing her to write or read, forcing her to sneak and do it, is causing her to become more and more insane and obsessed with the yellow wallpaper. This is a prime example of a man repressing a woman’s rights.
Female athletes who benefit from athletic activity are more likely to lack obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. Also, female athletes are less likely to become pregnant, abuse drugs, stress, and have a guilty self image. The main causes of eating disorders are social, psychological, and physiologic factors. These factors contribute to poor self esteem, family dysfunctions, bad dieting habits, and social pressure of bring trim and beautiful. (Hamilton and Beck 2005) stated National Collegiate Athletic Association study of eating disorders in athletes revealed 1.1% of female athletes met the criteria for bulimia, but not for anorexia.
Media represent gender in three different themes. To start with, women are underrepresented which implies that men are more superior and women less important or invincible according cultural standard. Secondly, women and men are stereotypically portrayed in a manner that mirror and uphold socially endorsed views of race and gender. The third theme is the depictions of the relationship between women and men accentuate traditional roles and normalize violence against women. The major way in which media disfigures reality is through underrepresentation of women in the media.
Women Outlive Men “Men are better than women. Men should not do what women do because it will cause indignity.” Almost all of people are familiar with this quotation. There are many people who still believe that women are weaker than men, but it is the time for them to think about it again. People think that men are stronger than women because they can run faster, lift heavier weight, and do everything that women could not do. In fact, women outlive men by about five to six years.
