I often think how can they buy these packets when the pictures on them are awful. I would hate it every time I went for a cigarette being religiously confronted with these images. Even using these confronting images on the packets themselves is not solving the problem. I think quit now is a great campaign in its support for people quitting or attempting to. It has great programs in place for people to keep up their efforts.
We want our lungs to stay in one piece thank you very much. Just because you are outside it doesn’t make smoking ok, it’s still a horrible, disgusting and expensive habit. Let me first deal with the positive and unhelpful sides to smoking. Lots of people like to smoke to calm their nerves before a big exam or to be social with friends. Also the government make lots of money with the taxes from cigarettes.
While a cloud of smoke irritates non-smokers and makes it difficult to breathe that dense smoke, smokers feel jittery, anxious, and inconvenienced when they must go outside and distance themselves from public places. These common places are for people to socialize and to have a good time. The truth is everyone has encountered an uncomfortable situation like this before. Although many people may agree or disagree with the fact that smoking in public places is affecting everybody, it was happening until recently when the government banned smoking in public places, and this has created controversies between smokers and nonsmokers. Although smokers have needs, nonsmokers have a right to clean air and to a safe environment; including the fact that smoking is a huge risk for both smokers and nonsmokers, inconvenience, and a bad influence on younger generation.
They can’t stop smoking because they get addicted to it. Smokers have harmful effects like, they can get lung cancer, heart problems, and other diseases, they are not very healthy. People who smoke have a bad breath and they try to hide it with breath mints or gum. They can’t appreciate the taste of many foods as good as they used to before smoking because of the loss of sense and smell that diminished their ability to taste. Also they have a yellowish color on their fingernails from the pack of the cigarettes.
Other people chose to smoke because the people around them smoke, and the people whom are exposed to this behavior tend to follow the trends. Many people try to stay away from others that smoke for many reasons. First, is the fact that smoke makes your clothes smell and hands smell, and many other things on your body seem to smell after a smoking. Non- smokers have an issue with the people that smoke. Personally, I believe that people who smoke have every right to do what they want; just like the people who decide not to smoke.
If I were to succumb myself to the conformity of the group, I would probably be smoking now. Yet, I didn’t. The pressure exerted by a higher authority as well as my own conscience simply led me to decline the cigarette and walks away; making it one of the best decisions of my
You would think if I could fight a Heroin addiction, I can quit smoking. One thing that I know that would benefit other people if smokers quit, is second hand smoke. “Secondhand smoke is associated with disease and premature death in nonsmoking adults and children. Exposure to secondhand smoke irritates the airways and has immediate harmful effects on a person’s heart and blood vessels. It may increase the risk of heart disease by an estimate 25 to 30 percent…” If we could ban cigarettes all together, I bet the amount of cancer problems we have will dramatically lessen.
Drugs such as opiates and crack cocaine should not be legal due to the massive effects they have on individuals. According to Charles B. Rangel “Drug legalization threatens to undermine our society. The argument about the economic costs associated with the drug war is a selfish argument that coincides with the short-sighted planning that we have been using with other social policies. With any legalization of drugs, related problems would not go away; they would only intensify. If we legalize, we will be paying much more than the $30 billion per year we now spend on direct health care costs associated with illegal drug use.” (Charles B. Rangel; Criminal Justice Ethics, Vol.
It has been the most deadliest drug for years. Importantly, there are many effects from smoking tobacco, such as cardiovascular effects which affects your heart. your blood pressure goes up which may increase chances of blood clots , and the nicotine causes blood vessels to constrict and increase chances of a heart attack or stroke. Williams 2 Tobacco also has an effect on the skin, because nicotine has constrained your blood vessels, nutrients don’t get distributed properly. Your skin loses oxygen and minerals, which can cause premature aging.
Therefore, the government should have the right to discourage smoking. The cost of treating these diseases is very high. The money that smokers pour into the economy with the purchase of cigarettes is very much overshadowed by the amount of money the government
