There are many reasons that this book is valuable such as the way they express the American dream. Another reason is the way they show and explain symbolism. Character development over time is also huge part of the story, and last was the way they showed the different classes and tied them to gather at the same time. The American dream is to work hard and achieve your dreams, or to get rich and live comfortably. In The Great Gatsby, Gatsby was very poor and wanted to be with Daisy. Daisy and Gatsby were in love but Daisy could not be with him. Gatsby was poor and Daisy was rich and in that time period it was not acceptable to the parents to marry lower than your class. Myrtle is poor she does not have any extra money and hates her life with Wilson. Nick Harroway was middle class and had a little extra money but was not rich. Tom and Daisy were wealthy. They both came from rich families and had a lot of extra money. Gatsby was extremely rich. He had a mansion and pools and everything anyone could want. The book showed how people of different classes don’t have the same morals. Tom is rich so it is okay for him to cheat on his wife and hit women in that time period. Gatsby on the other hand is rich but was poor so he was raised with morals. He would never do that to Daisy and loves her so much. Nick is just disgusted in Tom for how he is. He doesn’t understand how Daisy and Tom stay together just because they are rich. He believes you should be together for love and happiness not for just being comfortable. He hates the how Tom and Daisy act when Myrtle and Gatsby die. They just stay together acting like it never happened and living their rich
