Affect on society Community corrections affect society because some people do not feel safe knowing that there is a criminal out and about with the freedom to do whatever, he or she pleases. A person, whom commits a crime while in the community, will return to jail to finish up his or her time that he or she was sentenced, depending on the new crime committed, whether it is the same crime or not, the offender can have time added to his or her present sentencing. Every ethical theory has its own unique way on looking into issues. Utilitarian stands out the most to me because it stands for the belief that moral rules should be choices made by a society to promote the happiness of its members. Through the utilitarian view the argument could be made that these prisoners are being treated to good and not good enough. If this theory was utilized within the jail system many issues would be solved and go along with the right and not wrong. The facilities can prove to b e a great asset to general population, holding the morals of popular belief while also keeping the convicted safe from theirselves and others. Prisons Prisons are institutions designed to securely house people who have been convicted of crimes. These people, these criminals are known as prisoners or inmates and they are housed for the time given in their sentence. The type of crime committed determines the length of the sentence the criminal will have to serve. Certain crimes such as murder can have a sentence as long as life in prison. People don’t just end up in prison, in order to be incarcerated a person needs to be accused of a crime.
The advantages of probation are that it is a more serious order than a good behavior bond, but still suitable for less serious offences, easier to supervise conditions imposed on the offender, inexpensive and can rehabilitate the offender. The disadvantages of probation are that the offender has the opportunity to re-offend, may not deter and takes up police time that could be better spent.
