Gatto compares school to a factory or prison which, generally speaking, are not fun places to be. This style of diction, with Gatto consistently projecting new words of the same connotation suggests his point of view on rejection of this prison-like system. The author appeals to anyone who has or has not questioned the usefulness of education. He appeals to our common sense by asking a simple question: why do we need this? Almost every student has thought the same thing at some point, but lacks the confidence needed to express these feelings to the public.
The research paper and its effectiveness at measuring a student's performance has become a debate within the educational community. Critics of the form say that in our age of technology the internet has made sources too readily available and therefore the essay type is obsolete. Yet, there are professors that would disagree and state they are encouraging students to think unconventionally. With good evidence on both sides of the argument it is hard to decide if this is an effective means of evaluation. There are more effective ways of assessing knowledge such as other types of essays and oral presentations.

I didn’t realize this book went over so much different things, like how the Ku Klux Klan got started, and Drug dealers living with their parents, I would recommend this book for everyone to read it was very interesting to me. I didn’t realize Macroeconomics would fall into this. One thing that I didn’t know was that teachers would cheat to get there grades up to get a better bonus; I guess I just came from a small school. I would have to agree with the Author of this book, that there is so much stuff that goes on in this world that we don’t think about. We stay in our own little community, and not think what is going on outside of it as long as we are happy and safe.
The consequence for the lack of critical thinking in decision making has been revealed through recent corporate scandals such as Enron (Braun, 2004, p. 232). To improve these skills, business leaders believe that more focus be made on teaching critical think in business schools over anything else (Braun, 2004, p. 232). While many professionals agree with this, I believe, rather than waiting until college, these skills and tools can be developed at a young age by shifting from the more traditional passive teaching methods to a more active teaching style. Traditionally, passive teaching has been the most common approach used by professors. This method usually involves professors delivering lectures to students with little to no opportunity for student input through “discussion or experiential exercises” (Michel, Cater, & Varela, 2009, p. 400).
Many of his students said they weren’t interested in what was being taught because it was stupid and they already knew the material. Gatto doesn’t place blame on any one party but places the blame on everyone. With this essay Gatto intends to get the proverbial wheels turning inside the readers mind by giving them a look into his own view of the educational world. He uses a host of examples to support his ideals. First, Gatto refers to a lesson his grandfather taught him at the ripe age of 7; his grandpa declared that if Gatto was bored that it was his fault and no one else’s.
5 February 2011 The Power of Academic Conversations In Dr. Gibson break down Plato’s quote could at first listen by the average listener is inappropriate to describe the essence of college learning because it is unclear to indicate that it represents the essence of a college and a university education as I just read this quote. I don’t even know what she tries to say. In the quote, I just know that it is about conversation, but I don’t even know the following words what they represents if I do not keep read the follow paragraph. I am agree with Dr. Gibson says that it is very importance to have conversation at the college. As a college student, it would be so different from a high school student.

Taking Responsibility For Education Students rely on a number of things in their pursuit of a higher education; teachers, accredited institutions, and textbooks containing correct information. James Loewen, who wrote Lies My Teacher Told Me, brings up concerns for students stating US History lower-learning textbooks are not equipped with factual information. In Loewen’s text he brings to light some very significant US events he believes are not factual. When we think of studying history we think about learning specific dates, events, or wars that impacted our country. Not many people stop to question if the information they are reading or being taught is factual.
I tried college right after high school but dropped out because I felt like I was wasting time and money. I told myself that when I decided what to major in I would go back and get my degree. I have been working as the office manager of a long term care facility and realized that my career path has reached its max potential with out a degree. My experience working with the accounts receivable and accounts payable and monitoring the financial process of a business has awakened my desire for more out of my career. At this point in my life I would love to move into the corporate level but need the college degree to do so.
