Lucie devotes her time to her husband from day to day while he is imprisoned. Her magnanimous sacrifices express to the reader the hardships she would endure to assuage her husband’s distress. Dr Manette puts his daughter’s safety before his own. During the trial, Dr. Manette exclaimed that “[his] daughter, and those dear to her, are far dearer to [him] and [his] life (Dickens chapter 39). Although realism seems to be most common throughout the story there is also a touch of naturalism throughout select passages. Naturalism throughout this story involves the reader in the social structure of Edna’s family and friends. Throughout the story Edna’s character seems to use naturalism because she wants to be extremely direct when she is explaining herself to her husband and friends. We also see this in the depiction of feminism throughout Edna’s character and her fight to do what she feels is right even when it is
In my family upbringing males had very specific roles. Males are the providers and protectors. The males in the family went out and worked, while the females stayed home and took care of the kids and house. Growing up my mom was home to teach us, care for us, cook for us, and was always there for us. My dad went out and worked to provide for us and take care of us.

The act of nursing a child creates an important bond between the mother and child. When Tita takes over the job of feeding Roberto, the author says, “It was as if the child’s mother was Tita and not Rosaura” (78). By having a physical and emotional bond with Roberto, Tita feels like she is an important role in his life. By creating this bond, Roberto will only feel comfortable around Tita and will believe that he is in a safe environment. When a child responds in an uncontrollable manner, it usually means that he or she is uncomfortable and want to return to his or her comfort zone.
Big world by Tim Winton depicts the main ideas of how friends and family can have such an impact on and individuals identity, we can see this through an example where the main protagonist quoted “ My mother is trying to wean off biggies. In fact she's got a program all mapped out to get us back on track,” here we can see the use of metaphor where the mother isn't literally mapping out a plan but as a mother she is the one that helps her children get back on path, therefore she is a major influence in how her children's identity is influenced. The cacti remind Tiggy of her failed relationship with her and her ex-husband. Tiggy Entwhistle, who has found comfort in her succulents, wishes her husband loved her half as much as the cacti do. “And in the midst of my personal troubles, of which quite a few of you are aware, I can only stress that my cacti have played an essential part in holding me together.” This quote demonstrates how much Tiggy relies on her cacti to keep her stable. To her, the cacti are just like pets, expect they don’t move or make any noise, and that is exactly why Tiggy has fallen in love with them. “We regard the cactus as a plant which struggles to survive in a hostile environment, and it is this notion of proud undaunted struggle which enhances its appeal.
