Lord Capulet essentially endorsed Juliet’s relationship with Romeo without even knowing it. The quarrel between the families caused them to lose their progenies. The deaths of beloved Romeo and Juliet were due to the, “Capulet[‘s and] Montague[‘s], [...] hate, that Heaven [found] means to kill [their] joys with love!” (V.3.315-317) The dispute between the Capulet’s and the Montague’s made Romeo and Juliet’s love less achievable; their love was quite tenacious that they killed themselves to be together. In an acute argument between Juliet and her father, Lord Capulet demanded that she was to, “go with Paris to Saint Peter’s Church or [he would] drag [Juliet] on a hurdle thither” (III.5.173-174). Lord Capulet was in dismay when Juliet repudiated marrying Paris, that she only longed for true love.
She always wants the best for Juliet that’s why she agrees to arrange the secret marriage of Romeo and Juliet because she wants to make Juliet happy. Friar Lawrence is in loco parentis for Romeo. Romeo is always able to talk to Friar Lawrence when he is having problems or needs advice. Friar Lawrence is more of a father figure to him than Lord Montague. Another type of love is Parental love.
In the play Romeo and Juliet one the first major characters you meet is Benvolio and you learn very quickly that he is compassionate and pacifistic. A trait that Benvolio shows frequently is compassion. After he is finished talking with Montague, Benvolio tries to find out why Romeo is depressed. When Romeo mentions that Rosaline doesn’t love him and that he won’t be able to forget her Benvolio says “I’ll pay that doctrine or else die in debt.” (I, i, 235) This proves that Benvolio is compassionate because he wants Romeo to be happy again and will ‘die in debt’ if he can’t teach Romeo how to forget Rosaline. Benvolio also shows that he is pacifistic.
Critic argument A. As you read the play you are able to examine right away how proud the nurse is of the lady Juliet is becoming. B. “More of a mother to Juliet than Juliet’s mother, the Nurse has reared Juliet and loves her to the point of being willing to do anything to make Juliet happy.”(“Romeo and Juliet” 7 of 29) C. The Nurse is proud of Juliet, and in her
Juliet curses Romeo but still loves him at the same time. The nurse tries to coax her to believe men are evil. Then Juliet takes up for Romeo. She says that she shall not talk bad about her husband of three hours. She said that banishment is worse than any murder.
Relationships in Act One In Act One of Romeo and Juliet, several types of relationships are seen. There is hate and conflict between the Montagues and the Capulets. This story also shows strong bonds and friendship between Benvolio and Romeo. Juliet shares a relationship with the Nurse who is like a mentor to her. Lastly, Romeo and Juliet share an almost impossible romantic relationship.
On one side she is attempting to be this perfect child figure for her parents. On the other side, she is trying to be a teenager drawn in love. The reader is also able to get a sense of fear from Juliet, due to her parents iron fist. To bridge the gap between these two expectations we see the Nurse. The Nurse is able to understand what Juliet wants while not being bound by royalty.
87-93). The dramatic irony in the scene is that Lady Capulet is mourning over Tybalt but Juliet is mourning over Romeo. Juliet and the audience know this but Lady Capulet does not. Juliet starts to mess around with her mother by changing her words around to make it sound like she also wants Romeo dead, but actually wants to see him. Lady Capulet does, not notice what Juliet is doing, but the audiences does, thus creating dramatic irony in this scene.
The Nurse, similar to Mercutio, makes lewd references to the sexual aspect of love. The Nurse doesn't share Juliet's idea of true love, for her, love is a temporary and physical relationship, so she can't recognise the intense and spiritual love Romeo and Juliet share. When the Nurse brings Juliet news of Romeo's wedding arrangements, she focuses on the
He is now angry with Tybalt and wants revenge. ‘Fire-eyed fury be my conduct now.’ Romeos change in mood is significant as it leads to the death of Tybalt and Romeo being banished . Shakespeare also uses dramatic irony to make Act 3 Scene 1 such an intense and significant scene. When Romeo refuses to fight Tybalt all the other characters are confused as to why. ‘Good Capulet, which name I tender as dearly as my own.’ The audience know the reason why Romeo won’t fight Tybalt, which is because Romeo and Juliet are now married.
