Beowulf: The Most Heroic Man of the Anglo-Saxon Times “Warriors had to be willing to face any odds, and fight to the death for their glory and people” (1) Christopher Garcia emphasized on the importance of having a warrior like Beowulf who fought for what he believed in. The epic hero Beowulf describes the most heroic man of the Anglo-Saxons times; he possesses superhuman strength and is larger than life while clearly performing the values of an epic hero with his intelligence intertwining with his courage and fate to his people. Beowulf illustrates all the main characteristics of an epic hero while uniquely demonstrating super powers unlike many other heroes during this time. Beowulf demonstrates courage through his actions when fighting all the hideous beasts that arrive his way. Beowulf announces "I've never known fear; as a young youth I fought in endless battle. I am old now but I will fight again"(734) Beowulf knows that his life is coming to an end, yet he still has the courage to go on for the safety of his society. “Death for a warrior is honorable, and courage must be shown through deeds, even if it means death" (Garcia 1). This quote gives the audience an understanding on how the Anglo-Saxons viewed their heroes. During the time that Beowulf would have been around it would have been an honor to die in battle for your people. Which is just what the almighty overruling Beowulf did, he fought and showed courage even though he was weak. This is what makes Beowulf such an outstanding hero he fought in honor of his people, knowing he might die he wanted to save his men's life's during the process. The Geats epic King was a picture perfect Anglo-Saxons hero. He was the strongest man on earth while showing courage, wisdom, and faith to his people. Along with strength he had the super powers to help him fight his battles and gain all the glory at the end of the day. Even though Beowulf followed all the "standards" of an epic hero he still showed some unique characteristics. In the end he became an inspiration for all the people of the land because
