His mother was considered to be an excellent cook. Their whole family beamed about it, the mother in law even beamed about it. After his mother was married, her in-laws decided it was high time that she learn how and start to cook. However would her son survive? This was the mother-in-law’s greatest fear.
My mother was always a single mother, so just like space, as I was growing up, money was tight. But my mother never let that hold back my siblings and me from getting our education and other goals she set for us. She knew we could do things that we believed we couldn’t possibly do, so she always encouraged us to be our best, no matter whatever or whoever tried to bring us down. The people that are in my life today have had a huge impact on the person who I’ve grown to be. My family, but especially my mother has molded me with their standards and expectations of me, and for them I am thankful.
This poem symbolizes her life and the life of many Mexican Americans and other Latinos that life in the United States. Being Mexican American and Native American is a big deal to Cervantes and many others who share these roots. For example, the apricot paste communicates her passion for Pedro; on the other hand the whiteness of the granulated sugar makes her feel the emptiness cause from her sister. Cooking is part of the everyday thing, a quotidian for people like Tita who is forced to do house work and cook for her family. Esquivel uses this to emphasise the fantastical with the real. In other words, the food is a symbol for what is real in a way that emotions of Tita can be felt from just eating her food. I think that food and memory are interconnected at all times in our lives.

Ernestine still maintains a healthy lifestyle; she is well in all aspects of mind, body and soul despite those devastations.

My reasoning is because most don’t understand me, and they take my demeanor as cockiness. Cockiness can turn people off instantly. There is a saying that first impression is a lasting impression. Communication is vital and needed to get things accomplished. Lack of communications means lack of progression.
