Political Science 34-102 Section 6 Tianli Wu Instructor: Dr. Wade Where is the love <Where is the love> is a song recorded by The Black Eyed Peas, an American hip hop group, in their third album, Elephunk. This song was written by Ron Fair in late 2001. Will.I.Am, another member of the group, added the socially-conscious lyrics and Justine Timberlake also co-wrote some sections of the song. The lyrics added an antiwar sentiment and address a wild range of global ills and strife. Their song had six weeks in the mainstream on the Top 40 chart and is in the Top 10 for the worldwide radio listening audience. At the Forty-sixth Grammy Awards, the band received two nominations for Record of the Year and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The song expressed the common dreams people living is a full of love. In the first part, “What's wrong with the world mama; People living like they ain't got no mama; I think the whole world's addicted to the drama; Only attracted to things that will bring you trauma.” That lyric refers to children asking their mothers why people were doing a lot of bad things and what happened in the real world. “Overseas, yeah, we tryin' to stop terrorism.” This sentence refers primarily to Afghanistan where Al-Qaeda terrorists were originally located. Most of the terrorists who were responsible for the attack on the United States on September 11, 2001 were members of this group. The war on terrorism is including the Afghan War in 2001.
