The Native Americans were treated badly by the Europeans when they arrived, the long term effects of this such as homelessness, alcoholism, a valuable things stolen from then and it can be seen in the story “What You Pawn I Will Redeem”, the author is Sherman Alexie. Alcoholism The author shows how alcohol has affected Native Americans in the story “What You Pawn I Will Redeem”. The quote means he’s been homeless for a while and he’s has nothing close to him. “Being homeless is probably the only thing I’ve ever been good at”. Overall he’s homeless and he’s never had anything important close to him. In the story the author shows how important the regalia are to Jackson Jackson and what he’ll do to get it. “That’s my grandmothers Bwwow regalia in your window I said. Somebody stole it from her fifty years ago and my family has been searching for it ever since”. The quote means after fifty long years he finally finds the important thing that belongs to his grandmother (her regalia). “That’s too bad he said and though third about the possibilities I’d sell it to you for a thousand dollars if you had it. The pawnbroker would sell Jackson Jackson his grandmother’s regalia back to him but it seems like he doesn’t have that much and he is homeless as well so it’s going to be hard for him to get a thousand dollars.
