Evangelio 2 What are the causes of the American Revolution? Before I took this class, I would've said that the reason for the American Revolution was the unnecessary taxing on goods. I would've never known that there was so much more to it. One of the main reasons is, of course, the unreasonable taxing, another would be the mercantilism vs the republicanism views, miscommunication between the colonies and Great Britain, the argument about the visual and the direct representation, the salutary neglect issue, and so much more. Well they were unreasonable in the eyes of the colonies, but for the British, they were perfectly reasonable. They believed that because they protected the colonies during the war, it is only right for the colonies to pay them back by paying their taxes. These tax money were used to pay for Great Britain's debts after the French-Indian War because not only did their size doubled, but as well as their debt. Some of the acts implemented were the Sugar Act which taxed sugar, the Stamp Act “that mandated the use of stamped paper or the affixing of stamps certifying payments of tax”.² There was also the Quartering Act which “required certain colonies to provide food and quarters for British troops”³, the Townshend Acts which were indirect taxation on glass, white lead, paper, paint and tea, the Intolerable Acts which included the Boston Port Act and the Quebec Act, and so much more various…show more content…
