1920’s Paragraph In the 1920’s America underwent significant changes politically and socially, experimenting with increasing government control and influence upon its people. One such was the government tried to gain more control and influence the people was through the implementation of Prohibition. Through Prohibition they banned the manufacturing, sale, and transportation of alcohol. Conspiracy was a prominent theme in the competition. Capitalists denounced radicals for scheming to overthrow the government and cited as proof events like the 1886 Haymarket Square bombing that left seven policemen dead.

During the 1930’s a crime wave crashed through American towns and cities. The primary cause for the eruption and eventual spread of criminal activity, during this period known as the “Gangster Era,” was the legal prohibition of intoxicating drinks. Gangs such as the Toughy Gang were involved in
